Ripmax Nova 40 conversion

I built this Nova 40 for glow. It flew briefly, about 3ft off the ground, then the engine died resulting in the landing gear needing repaired.

In the meantime, I learned on my Arising Star.

But now my son wants to learn on electric, so I’m going to convert the Nova for him.

I’ve got a 60A esc, and there’s a motor and mount on order.

I’m planning to make a hatch on the front, above where the fuel tank would have been for battery access. Then I’ll need to make a battery tray for it.

Planning on using a 4s, 3500-4000mah lipo.

Got more bits for the Nova, so did a bit more work. Fitted the motor using standoffs, and cut some vents to keep things cool.

I now need to test the motor and see what the power draw is like, so I can work out what battery capacity I’ll need.

Finished off the conversion. I went for a big battery for flight time, and for weight to help with balance. I had to add a small weight tray on the nose.

I’m hoping to maiden it this week. I just need to check the final power draw.

Hey I am doing something like this with my hobbico flightstar. MAybe a 5055 motor is too big.

Well, it might be ok. I had to use a 6000mah battery for flight time, but also weight to balance it. And I had to still add weight to the nose. So a bigger motor out front will help with balance.

Remember these were designed for a heavy lump on the nose.

Also, you can read from my other thread about battery choice, that I was quite close to the limit on power, so having a bigger motor would likely help with that too.

I got a 6s 5200. I think it should work. Just waiting on an esc

Nope, same result. I opened the link on my iPhone and I could see the video but it's the size of a postage stamp.

I think the forum is changing it to an embedded media link. If I paste the link I copy, into a browser, it opens fine.

Anyway, it flew. Take my word for it 🤣

I’ll maybe put it on YouTube eventually.
