General Aviation and Manufacturing Association (GAMA) is sponsoring the 2016 Aviation Design Challenge to promote STEM education through aviation in high school and home schools across the United States. Teams design, build and fly virtual aircraft .

Team are given free software and training. Teams do NOT need to have any aviation experience.

Each high school will apply what they have learned by modifying the design of an airplane. The schools will then compete in a virtual fly-off, which will be scored on aerodynamic and performance parameters while flying a specific mission profile. Judges from GAMA will select the winning school based on that score and other factors.

Prize?
The prize will include an all-expenses-paid trip for up to four high school students, one teacher, and one chaperone to experience general aviation manufacturing firsthand.

Enter now to ensure your classroom’s place in the competition! Space is limited to the first 100 U.S. high schools and home schools and closes on January 31, 2016.

Questions? E-mail STEMcompetition@gama.aero or call (202) 393-1500 for more information.

This is great news for the hobby as well.
I'm glad to see this pushed down below university levels. I always enjoy reading their design reports and watching the competition videos.
The one I'm referring to is this https://www.aiaa.org/secondary.aspx?id=19939
Using x-plane to do the same thing virtually is an awesome idea.
