ATX Power Supply Conversion

Crazy flyer/crasher :D
You can use a dual filament automotive light bulb in place of a resistor. Wire it so that both filaments are used.
makes a nice glow from inside the PSU too

Like the ones they use in some cars! Ahh okay.
I´ll just look what is going to be available in the shops I order from next.
But good idea !

I made 2 of those power supplies and they work great !

but i didnt used ANY resistor, is there any problem with that ?? i just conected the green to black and turn it on/off by pulling the cable in/out of AC. stripped the rest of the wires .. dont want the red and orange....

i soldered as many yellow wires i found together so they will give me a strong output ( they were 7 wires in the bigger one and 5 in the smaller ); did the same with the black ones.

Plz tell me if i need to fix anything ... am i in danger of a short circuit ?

The purpose of the resistor is just to get the voltage closer to 12v
These PSU are only regulated on the 5v rail, so putting a load on the 5v will sometimes get you closer to a 12v on the 12v rail
Running them w/o a load on the 5v rail is no problem as long as you are getting enough voltage to reliably run your chargers

thanks for the info ill look into that ... my HK eco6 reads my INPUT power at 11,8 while charging.

how did you liked my Black MOD and the eletrical surge sticker hehehe ;)

i found an old TAMIYA resistor ... ill take a picture of it .... when i took it out of my RC car; it had 2 purple wires to the sides and 1 blue in the middle .. i guess its a double resistor ? the ground goes in the middle and the neg to the sides ? Can I use this ??

That resistor will (assuming its still good) a total of 0.6ohms, with 5 volts that will draw about 8 amps! total power output would be about 140watts.... into a 7watt resistor would make a nice heater, for a short time ;)

they are really cheap, so if you can get either a 5 ohm 10W wire wound resistor or 2 10 ohm 5W resistors in parallel then you'd be set.

Some PSU wont work at all without the load, so I you must have a good one.... and by good one I mean cheap and nasty ;)

You don't need to put any switches or anything, it just a matter of convenience.

well done!
