Build log - 13th squadron De Havilland 88 Comet

A few months ago I was very flattered to be invited to do a beta build for Jack & Steve Niezgoda for their DH88 Comet. The Comet is one of my all-time favourite planes so it seemed like the perfect opportunity to build my first twin engined plane. Sadly soon after I started the build various outside issues conspired to take away much of my free time, and I wasn’t able to get the build done before the planes were released into the outside world. Needless to say, their build (you can download the plans and see their introductory video at 13thsquadron.com) is beautiful, and they even did a simultaneous release of another amazing golden age air racer - a French Caudron.
Anyway, here I am a few months later and it looks like I’m going to have a little free time in the upcoming few weeks, so it’s time to try to finish this build. And the incentive? The full size plane is in a museum less than an hour’s drive from my home, so I can get some photos of their design alongside the full size plane.
So - I’ll log the build here for anyone tempted to have a go themselves. Here’s a few photos of the start I had made on the wings, along with a fantastic picture Jack & Steve did of their prototype, and one of the full size that I took when visiting the museum.
Let’s do this!
