hey Burg,
I'm kind of new on this...... why would you go on 3 cell? it's 20g more weight.....and too much for those engines, non? what's the benefit?

thx

Wow, these look nice !
Little expensive though, but the shipping makes it attractive again!
Did you order these ?

RCTimers esc's are the same as the turnigy plush ....

No i haven't ordered them yet. I am building a tricopter first. Plus me living in Hawaii right now. There is not real reason to build something to fly indoors

Update:

I found a spare free hour (rare) and pre-build the frame.

Tubes glued with CF and op a 7x7cm piece of plywood (3.5mm thick)
7x7 (not 5x5) because then it will fit the 10A plush esc's nicely.
VERY sturdy !!

Weight 25.6 gram

Next time I'll use these red left overs from the HK V1 quad frame (very light)
IMG_0387.JPG

Added some mesh wire to test space for motor wires (=ok)
IMG_0389.JPG

Weights 29 grams (incl 8 small zip ties)
IMG_0388.JPG

Next step is to solder the RX to the board.
And wiait for the motors and esc's ...

Hope to make the next update soon !!

Great progress!!

from my side, I just received a mail as my order has been posted!!! hope to ketch up soon.

PS recurring question...aren't you going to kill the engine with a 3S battery???

Thanks Halford,

You are absolutely right.
A 3cell for that 1811-2000kv is overkill.
But I have this one as well:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idproduct=6744

Only 13 gram and capable to use a 3 cell.
IMO the quality is better then the 10 gram 1811-2000kv.
Ordered 3 extra to see the performance.

Looks very stable. Not in terms of flying but in terms of stability of the frame.

Great job with adding the carbin fiber to the rods!

What do you mean with twist it? Or lets rather ask what is the thing that will be twisted? The rod itself due to the torque of the motor?

Yep the rods! But I just saw that is not using hollows like mine... It might be fine after all

Yes, and when they DO twist, I can always add the extra rods and make the quad square. Rather not, because it will add extra weight off course.

Update:

While waiting for the HK 1811 2000kv 10gr motors (also ordered the Dealextreem A1510 2200kv motors ;-) and the 10Amp esc's I decided to start balancing the GWS 5x3 props.

These are terribly unballenced .. In stead of adding small pcs of fiber tape I used CA.
This worked perfectly! Very quick and now I don't have the chance to loose the tape and crash ;-)
I put the CA on the bottom of the prop so it won't have negative influence on the top airflow for lift.

Like to do static vibration test soon. See this pic :

Update:

I knew I had them somewhere and yes, found two motors HK 1811 2000kv 10gr motors.
Made a test setup and it works great.
LOTS of lift with the 5x3 props and just a little flex of the tubes.
Not a problem, this will absorb vibrations which is even good.

Weight with 2 motors, 1 esc, + lipo = 125 gram.
I calculated that the complete mini quad will weight approx 200 gram.
Now where is my shipment HK ;-)
