I'm trying to hook up an Aura 5 board in my plane. I watched Josh's video about it and he quickly rattles off what items you need to do the install. He mentions a "satellite receiver" and something about the "protocol of your choice"........ what in the world is he talking about?? What exactly is a satellite receiver? And what is this "protocol" he mentions? Do I need a regular receiver and also a satellite receiver in the airplane in order to use the Aura board? I'm currently using a spektrum AR6610T rx and an AR610 rx.

The satellite rx just receives the inputs from the tx and sends the data to the Aura, the Aura then controls the servos and motor. You need a satellite rx like this:

To set up the rx I normally select auto detect in the Aura Config Tool

In normally use, a satellite receiver is an optional 2nd receiver. You want the satellite receiver located away form the primary. If the primary receiver loses signal hopefully the satellite can still receive a signal. The satellite receiver communicates with the primary receiver using a serial protocol. That is all of the channels on one signal wire. A standard receiver communicates with the servos, each channel on a separate signal wire, using PWM, pulse with modulation.

The Aurora can only receive serial protocol inputs. It then outputs the PWM signals to the servos. More & more receivers are capable of both serial protocols and PWM. Any receiver capable of serial output will work with the Aurora, provided the serial protocol is one of the many protocols the Aurora can use. Only one receiver is required.
