If you want FPV...

You'll need a video transmitter.

https://store.flitetest.com/lumenier-tx5g2r-mini-200mw-5-8ghz-fpv-transmitter-with-raceband/

You'll also need a camera for viewing.

https://store.flitetest.com/run-cam-swift/

The video transmitter will come stock with a very basic antenna, linear polarized antenna, which is known as a "rubber ducky" antenna. (I am not sure why.) These antennas are not as good for our use of the equipment, since the platform the video transmitter is on, moves, and passes between objects in flight which disrupts the signal.

So, it's recommended to get some sort of circular polarized antenna.

https://store.flitetest.com/immersionrc-5-8-ghz-spironet-antenna-set-2-rhcp-sma-connector/

And that's it for what you need on the versacopter to send video signal. Camera, video transmitter and antenna. Make sure to remember any time there's power going to the video transmitter that you have an antenna on it, otherwise you will damage the transmitter.

For viewing there's lots of ways to go about it, either by screen, or by goggles. And within the goggles selections there's the two mini screen style, like Fat Sharks, or the one larger screen format, like Headplays.

The lowest priced goggles we carry are the Fat Shark Teleporters.

With the pace the quads are advancing, I find all this 6 month old info is obsolete, probably should update or delete it. I only fly LOS, so maybe some of the FPV is relevant,,,

I think you are right Oz, this hobby advances so fast that things get outdated quickly. I think the versacopter and FT210 stuff is still relevant, but unfortunately the electrohub related builds don't even exist anymore :(, and the gremlin is now a new contender.

I made a similar thread a couple weeks back that lists what is currently best for miniquad builds, and I'm hoping the community can help me keep it updated as things progress. Perhaps the community can help this thread stay on top of things. A similar deal for the FT planes wouldn't hurt either.

You'd be surprised.

I still get requests about the Electrohub stuff. And with the 3D printers, I have seen people printing out some of the OLD stuff, like the original H Quad from way back.

I thought the topic was "Flite Test Multirotors Recommended Gear", this old stuff "I" personally would not recommend (excluding the fpv stuff). Requests and recommendations are two different things, happy flying!

Another New Guy

Hi,
New to this and looking for some help.

I just bought the Versacopter (v2) kit and it looks like the Power Pack E (mini quad) is no longer available.
Can I assume the motors and ESC are the same as in the Power Pack A (minis)?
(EMAX MT1806 and BLHELI 12amp ESC)

Thanks,
Ed

No, that power pack is for mini planes. You want something like 2205 2000kv for motors and 20-30A ESC's. Not sure when they are going to finish (or start ;)) re-doing the power packs, but they have tons of motors and ESC's on the store.

Thanks much for the info. I will take a look at what they have in the range you have mentioned.

Don't know if anyone is still watching this thread, but I could use some current advice just along these lines!

A few years ago I bought what I think was the FliteTest Dragonfly kit - it was the multirotor based on the Electrohub with four motors plus a fifth motor with a servo tilt mount.

I never got it to fly well, and it was probably out of my skill level as I haven't done much with multirotors. I ended up crashing it a few times and stripped the tilt servo, banged up the (wooden) landing legs, etc.

What I'd is to find another kit where I can reuse the motors, EMAX 2213-935KV, and ESCs, BLHeli 20A, and use them to make a standard quad.

I'd need everything but the motors & ESCs - a frame, a new flight controller (as I don't trust that the one I have with it is still usable), power distribution board (is that still a thing?), etc. Does Flite Test still sell anything like that? I could just buy a new complete quad, but I'd really enjoy building a kit again.

Thanks,

Looks like those motors turn 8-10" props, so you'll want to find a frame to accommodate that. I don't believe FT carries anything that big. Most modern FC's are "all in ones", meaning they are FC, PDB and OSD on one board. There are many options available, and I've been out of the market for awhile so I can't recommend anything specific, just make sure you get one with an F4 or F7 processor. You'll probably also want to get a serial receiver for whatever radio system you're running, modern FC's don't provide for PWM inputs.
