FliteTest Twin Otter

I've been wanting to build this plane ever since it was announced and I saw that video of the flat spins. It looks like it's gonna be a ton of fun to fly. I started it a couple of days ago. I know it's supposed to be a 3 hour build, but I'm taking it slow because I'm really enjoying this kit. This is my first speedbuild kit in a while. My last was an MS Spitfire. Something about this kit is insanely fun for me though. I love how easy it's been so far. I'm done with the wing and most of the fuselage. I think it's because there's been no tough glueing procedures, like the MS can have sometimes. You're also assembling large chunks of things at one time so the progress seems really rapid. I really like the score marks for bevels. It's probably something I'll do in the future since these are some of the best bevels I've ever cut. I'm also a big fan of how this model, at least so far, has tried to cover up exposed edges.

Few more days of building on this and then we'll get to see how she flies.

While I'm waiting on some wire from Amazon, I decided to recreate the Otter canopy latch in a 3D printed version. It's amazingly smooth. I'm curious how FliteTest would feel about me sharing the STL files.

While I’m waiting on some wire to wire in my motors, I can’t help but feel like the ESCs are not going to get enough cooling if they‘re buried in the wings. I wonder if I should just make the motor leads longer instead of the battery leads

There certainly wouldn't be any harm in that. In fact there are those that say that the battery leads should never be extended, only the motor leads.

But I'm not one of those :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

sweet. You got me looking it up and yeah, 90% of the sites said to not extend the battery side. Looks like I may not need to wait on that wire after all.

Here's a test I ran a few years ago.

Argh...I got to the tail feathers, only to realize that my kit didn't have the sheet with the tail feathers in it.

I should have checked all the sheets when I opened it because I distinctly remember thinking, "wow! there's not a lot of foam for a plane this size"

sent a message to their support department. I know @SP0NZ has said that the plans aren't ready, but maybe those 3 specific parts are? I've got plenty of Makerfoam to cut them out myself.

I thought I might get it in the air this weekend too. I've still got the MXS to maiden though so maybe that can tide me over.

Definitely contact support@flitetest.com to get that taken care of.

It's going to be a while on these plans. I have not started on them yet and there are a couple more ahead of it. It will be nice to finally be caught back up.

I've watched the build video 3 times now and have no idea what these pieces of wood are for.

FT had a pre-packaged generic accessory pack that was added to some of the SBK's once upon a time. They had 4 paint stir sticks in them that were used on some planes and not on others.
