Hi, i want to build an racing drone but don't know what parts to buy.. i have selected some parts from Hobby king and was hoping someone could let me know if these will all work together and if not what will work instead. Also if there is anything else i need to get in the air.

Those motors are too small to handle the power and will smoke. They are meant for 5" props on 2S not 5" props on 3S. You want at least an 1804 and I would suggest no smaller than a 2204 at 2300kv or so.

If you want to race, think 4s which means 24A ESCs and a 4S lipo.

Welcome to the forum.

First and foremost I would spend many hours on a simulator. First even see if you like this. Not to mention this will save you A LOT of money and time. Quads are not cheap and crashing them a lot means lots of repairs and money. Learn to fly on a sim.

Secondly your list is a little dated, and even the parts that I list down below will soon become old news. This hobby moves so fast. However the parts I list below will perform amazingly, and have tons of youtube content on them to help you along the way.
You are also missing a lot of other key hardware. Hopefully you already have some of this stuff (i.e. M3 nylon standoffs, double sided or electrical tape, soldering iron, zip ties, wire, xt60 connectors.) You are also missing a receiver in your list. What type of transmitter do you have?

As for the parts list. This is very close to what I use and has won me many MultiGP local races.

Now if you are wanting to get into racing you will need FPV gear

Camera / Video Transmitter / Goggles (all about another $100 - $200)

Charlie,

I agree with Bromego. There are much better components out there. Also, simulator time will save you lots of $$$ and frustration from crashes

I’m not sure what other components you already have (transmitter/radio, receiver, FPV gear or goggles). Listing that out would help us.

Personally, I’d suggest a budget frame, a F3 or F4 flight controller (the number relates to the processing power), good but not expensive motors, and good escs. For example:

Frame $26 - Readytosky 220mm Martian II https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N0W2NOS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_bf5AAb2YH0GM8
Flight controller $35 - CL Racing F4S https://www.racedayquads.com/collec...ers/products/clracing-f4s-s-flight-controller
Motors $13/each - RDQ 2205 2450kv https://www.racedayquads.com/collec...badass-2205-2450kv-naked-bottom-racing-motors
ESCs $10/each - Spedix ES25 amp https://www.racedayquads.com/collections/all-escs/products/spedix-25a-esc-dshot-600-blheli_s

Hi, thank you for your suggestions, i have a spektrum DX6 transmitter and the receiver that came with it, will this be compatible?
I don't have any FPV gear yet, i wanted to build the quad first then consider that after.

In regards to simulation is there any software you would recommend?

Thanks for your time. Charlie

Velocidrone $~15

FPV Freerider $~5

Liftoff (Steamgame) ~$20

Velocidrone is my favorite, but FPV freeride is the most basic and has Line of Sight flying so you could really practice your initial skills. Spend lots of time on the sim LOTS! If it is cold outside for you like it is for me, sims are the perfect way to get started.
