Propellers

So I am very new to the Hobby and am teaching myself to fly so I crash a lot. When I built my first FT Flyer I went through 4 props in 1 session. I have purchased a prop saver for my current set up which has helped with this problem but i still break a couple props every time I fly. In a pinch I will go to my local hobby shop but they run about $2.50 each(That gets expensive quick).
Currently I am flying an old Fogey with an eflite Park 370 motor. I don't have it in front of me but I think my prop is 8x4.3.

My question is, Is there a good place to buy props in larger amounts(10-15) for a discount?
Also, any tips for learning to help prevent this in the first place?:black_eyed:

Thanks in advance,

Drew

Well your learning on your own , and your building and flying for the first tume, well prop saver is best. And till you learn to land nicely your gonna break props, its better to break your prop then your plane, for props in bulk for cheap go to hobbyking.com they have good prices amd anything else you'll need to get started. Now if you wanna really learn without killing your plane go on ebay like i did when i started and buy a cheap simulator with controller for like 35 to 50 bucks no not the best graphics but they work. I uses real flight 3. After learning from that i never had a problem flying. Theres some of good options for you

Are they slow fly props?

Ebay:

There are many other options on there, just search and you'll see. When I first started getting into RC I always looked at the dedicated RC shops and sites for parts. I started noticing people posting on various forums that they got most of their parts off eBay. I finally started looking there and those people are right. It's amazing what you can get. I always check eBay when I need parts.

The first option I list is for 10 props for $11.67 including shipping. Hard to beat that.

when hitting something becomes inevitable try and get off the throttle. When I started I would attempt to save it till the very last second and it meant that the prop was spinning when it made impact. Now a days I am still no better at piloting, but I have learned how to crash more gracefully.

I too am brand new into the hobby and learning about this along side my daughter. After sorting out the electronics we made our first attempts at flight with the FT Nutball. We broke two props in short fashion, using the prop saver that came with the motor. I had purchased a 4 pack from HK and we were down to our last one, til I destroyed it this evening. I realized that flying the nutball very slowly was the way to go and had some decent flights for a beginner. But going through though the props at this pace sorta lets the wind out of your sails. So, we will be getting more... and going at a much slower speed.

With that, I remember watching one of the FT videos, and for the life of me I can't recall which one. But Josh B. had shown a green prop that was extremely flexible... he bent it between his fingers several times and said the name of it. I figure that something like that would help save a few trips into the house for a new prop... Any thoughts?

You really want a better chance not breaking props invest in folding props

There is a HUGE difference in quality of the props.
The quality of an "expensive" folding prop is normally good and a fixed prop of the same quality normally stand a lot of "landings".
Try to find the little more expensive APC-E 8*4 if you cant find a folding prop.

I think the prop saver should be called a motor shaft saver :)
I'd rather lose a prop.

Also, the vendors putting together and selling the FT power plant kits should consider adding a few more props in the kit.

Ebay is something I haven't used in quite a while. Thanks for the TIP. those seem to be good prices too!
