shelflife of LiPo batteries...

Hello, everyone!

Way back in 2004, I gave a stab at RC flying with a GWS beginner kit - a "something stick".

Now I am back with a speedbuild FT22 under construction.

Among the many electronic parts that I am recycling for this project is a "Thunder Power" (BZZZT!) LiPo 2-cell 850mAh battery - which has been stored in my house (room temp) for neigh onto 10 years.

I have the appropriate charger.

Will this battery be dangerous/inefficient to use or should I rush out in a buying frenzy and get a new one?

a Noob here, from the Suzuki Samurai forums Universe, I remain:

I think you are going to have issues trying to fly that FT-22 on a 2s battery. FT recommends 3s in the product description of the store.

Recommended electronics:

MOTOR (Option 1) - "Blue Wonder" 2712-12 24g

MOTOR (Option 2) - Suppo 2208/14 1450kv Brushless Motor (Park 370 equiv.)

MOTOR (Option 3) -"THE BEEF" (Motor only) GT2215/09 70g

Servos (Option 1) - Hextronic 9 Gram Servo

Servos (Option 2) - Suppo SP-90 9g Micro Servo

ESC (Option 1) - TURNIGY Plush 25amp Speed Controller

ESC (Option 2) - Suppo 18A Brushless ESC

Battery (Option 1) - Turnigy 500mAh 3s 20C Lipo Pack

Battery (Option 2) - Turnigy 1000mAh 3s 20C Lipo Pack

Battery (Option 3) - Turnigy 1300mAh 3s 20C Lipo Pack

Prop (light set up) - Slow Fly 9x4.7 prop

Prop (heavy set up) - 8x6 Slow Fly prop

My setup for the FT-22 is a Turnigy 28-26 1200kv prop drive motor, 1300mah 3s 20C battery, 8x4e prop, 25amp esc, 9g servos.

You do not know until you have tried.
First you need to know the voltage of your battery - is it 6.0 volts or more?
Then you have to give it a charge to full capacity.
I have Lipos that old but they are not as good as new - but mine are obviously used a lot.

My recommendation are to get a new 3 cell 850 mAh high C-rate battery for your FT22.
Find the propeller your motor needs for 3 the cell battery.

You write "appropriate charger" - 10 years ago balance chargers was normally rare.
Old batteries (and new) should use a balancing charger at least now and then.
