Taranis Telemetry

I am buying a Taranis x9d Plus with the x8r receiver. I want to do telemetry, but it doesn't come with the telemetry cable. Can some give me a link to where I can buy one?

The cable you're looking for is also commonly called a "male to male servo cable" and can be picked up from your local hobby store, or places like

They often come shipped with telemetry sensors, receivers, flight controllers, etc. Eventually you'll notice them breeding in your workshop and they'll be everywhere!

I am using a Kiss FC and I am going to solder it straight to the baord. I want to use the subs port on the x8r. Rotor Riot has the alien build video and the cable has 4 different cable in the one cable, it looks like the cable in this picture.

Ah yep, you're looking for the smart port cable. Those cables, I thought, come with the X8R (and all FrSky receivers) -- I have a box full of them as I don't really use the smart port for all my builds (only the multirotors and a calypso glider with the vario sensor use the smart port). It's a really tiny cable, so it might still be in the plastic "blister pack" that the RX came in. If not, it might have been an oversight and your vendor should be able to send you one. Heck, I can pop an extra one I have in the mail for you if you're in the US (send me a PM).

BTW, if connecting to the FC, and assuming you are already connected to the FC from SBUS or PPM pins, you may be able to get away with a single wire connection. I have a single wire from the smartport connected to my naze32 controllers for the telemetry feedback. I just popped the pins/wires out of that connector for the other lines I didn't need. You really only need TX connected.

Best,
Dave

The smart port pins on the X8R are the standard servo sized connectors, unlike the X4RA in the picture you referenced above.

I can take a picture to show you when I get home, but below are some online shots

Those teeny tiny cable and micro-pitch connectors are the normal smart ports for most of the FrSky receiver line, but the classic X8R uses the bigger servo cable compatible connector.

And if you are going to a soldered up connection, definitely do as Dave suggests and go with the signal wire only connection back to the flight controller - no sense hooking up unnecessary cables :)

So the x4r doesn't use the same cabel as the x8r for smart port? What cable would I need to get for the x8r to work like the x4r setup in the rotor riot alien build video?

If you're going to solder the sensor pin to the flight controller directly, just take the other two wires out of any of the male servo connector leads linked to above. Once it arrives and you get yours hands on the receiver, it'll make sense :)

However, I have no insight on the programming side of what the rotor riot crew did with the x4r - but the x4r and x8r are almost identical from a functionality point of view, so whatever they did with one should work fine with the other. The only difference should be in the cable connector on the receiver end.
