Wonderful! That looks so awesome! I just love the look of this bird.
The bomb drop was the cherry on top. I can't wait to see this in person at Flite Fest!

If you are really looking to squeeze ever dollar, I use Americana DuraClear Polyurethane varnish (Gloss or Satin) from A.C. Moore. Comes in 8oz for $6.50. I use a 50% off coupon so it comes in at $13/quart and HomeDepot Minwax sanding sealer is $16 a quart. To close to split hairs on price, but $3 will buy enough foam to build another plane. ;)

Yeah, not sure what HD's online pricing is all about. I picked up my quart from less than $8 at the store. Not sure if it was a fluke but I like your method as well.

Excellent job, what a great looking plane! I love your bomb drop method.

From what I understand from browsing the forums, are you a member of the Frederick Model Aircraft Club? If so, I grew up in Frederick and was a member of FMAC for several years back in my teens. I learned to fly RC at that club, then college and career-building arrived. I'm now living in Centreville, VA, and work in Manassas. I hate not being able to fly at nearby parks due to the SFRA! I don't fly glow anymore, but try to fly the electrics when I visit my parents in Frederick.

I'm trying to plan a trip to Flite Fest this year, hope I get to see the Gotha if I do! :)

Yes! I am the FMAC membership secretary. Love my club as they are a bunch of sarcastic and fun-loving guys. They give me crap about all my scratch builds and being electric only but its all in good fun. Send me a PM the next time you are planning to visit your folks, lets see if we can meet up.

You a member of NVRC? Our field is in Centerville

There are a few of us FT guys around.

Thanks for the invite! I'll let you know when I'm in Frederick again, which is likely to be next weekend. :)

I'm not, but I only recently discovered that there was a field/club within the SFRA! I've been living here for about 2 years now, but only recently got back into RC after a several year hiatus. I did drive out to the field once back in March or April, but the gate was closed, and no one seemed to be here.

Not to derail this thread, but is NVRC pretty much the only legal place to fly an RC plane in the SFRA? I wish I could get some flights in at lunchtime at work in Manassas, but even that is within the boundaries!

The 30-mile ban was lifted back in February. I'm pretty sure Carl's field is outside the 15-mile radius. He would know the specifics. The Frederick club was never effected... but only just.

I've made a repair! Due to a crowded shop I accidentally knocked the rudder and stripped a gear on the rudder servo. It has been replaced. I have plans to pull the FRSky Rx from my Jug to put in this one to avoid any interference issues at FTFF. Other than that, she is ready for FTFF. I'm hoping I can pick up some batteries at the event. The 1300s are ok but do not give very much flying time. I need to look at size of the batteries because they need to fit in the nose for proper ballast. Cannot wait to see you all there!

I think we're all getting pumped right now... So close! I know I'm really looking forward to seeing this one and the Sikorsky fly. I didn't see it last year :-(

Can't wait to fly fighter escort. This is going to be amazing. This whole thing really blew up in the past two months. It's been a pretty wild ride so far, and it's only going to get better. And it all started with this epic foamboard Gotha build. Thanks Willsonman
