I wanted to build something like a UMX Timber. Would not recommend this, there is just something off about it. It has the stability of the full sized model up to a certain point where it bites. Does not like any wind at all. 100g auw. Doesn't seem to be as durable as others I've built either. It was also about 10g too heavy, didn't have enough power. Fun when it works though, the first time I flew it there was a swarm of bees attacking it!

50% simple scout is next.

Interesting. A few questions. Did you remove the paper from the foam. Do you think widening the wing, increasing the tail surfaces a few %, and a little more motor would help?

The foam is actually 3mm depron. I do think making the whole plane larger, say 60% instead of 47%, and giving it a slightly larger motor maybe a 1404 vs the 1204 I used, and a 2s system vs the 1s I used would help. The larger wing with more power/weight should fix most of the issues I had. I didn't have any problems with tail authority, I was able to do flat turns using rudder and the Storch has a nice large elevator. The problem is, I want to be able to fly these planes above my street and this was about as large of a plane as I am willing to fly in this area. Most of the planes I build are closer to 18-19in WS. I am working on a 50% simple scout right now.
