It has been a long year so far, and I haven't done much in the line of building and less flying than I had hoped since FF21. This week I finally started a new design (perhaps I should have finished my second build of my first design ...) I was trying to decide what the second MS design would be and I settled on the Curtiss P-36 Hawk - predecessor to the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk. There are no promises on when I will finally finish this and get plans available, as I think I excitedly released my plans prematurely (Messerschmitt ME109/BF109). Not that they didn't build well, I just had to submit a few updates as some parts could have been better.
The build will again be a Master Series-styled build, although maybe just a bit more complex. I like the sturdiness of a fuselage core with formers and skins, and I like to incorporate fixed landing gear and am more enjoying flaps. In all, lots of parts, but I am shooting for a straightforward and repeatable build.
A few early conundrums that I'm having, and may create multiple plans surrounding them:
-split flaps, which will require ironing the flap to more of a wedge shape
-a better vertical stabilizer thicker than the single DTFB sheet, method and results TBD
The initial designs as below have the standard single-thickness VSTAB and TBD optional areas for flaps, maybe easy flaps on the top skin, maybe split flaps form the bottom. Either way, the single plan should easily accommodate whichever one would wish to build (or no flaps, for that matter as well).
To start things off though, I should soon get these plans printed off and onto DTFB for the initial build and outer skin development...
