Biplane love.

I have not built or bought a Biplane, but have always wanted one. I love the build kits I've gotten from Flitetest and have always hoped that they would offer a large Biplane speed build kit. Is there any chance of that happening, or will I have to create my own?

I just finished an FT 3D biplane conversion. I haven't flown it yet, but the design looks promising. I also have a 32" version of a Christen Eagle that will be a swappable coming soon-ish.

I really like the Baby Blender but it's a bit squirrelly. I plan to build one and add about 2" to the fuselage behind the wing and increase the nose to get it to balance without additional dead weight. I also might make the wings one full sheet wide (30"). As for a "bought" biplane, one of my all time favorite airplanes is the Elite UMX Pitts S1. Max out the throws and it's a real blast! I'll start a build thread if I go forward with the extended Blender.

I also like the UMX Pitts. It's pretty awesome and it flies incredibly well. I flew mine indoors for the first time last Sunday and was pretty impressed by how slowly it flies. The only thing I can say I don't like about it is that it lands scale. That is to say that it ground loops like crazy unless you touch down perfectly straight.

I have flow a real Pitts. You're right, it lands very scale. It's call "The Pitts Shuffle" in the full scale world. I think the UMX version is incredibly like the full scale but not nearly as tragic if you screw up. Or in the case of the model, WHEN you screw up.

Here is what I really want to see. Fits the bill for biplane and big.

Biplanes, did someone mention biplanes! Here's a few I prepared earlier;

If you're looking at the Old Fogey 'conversion' have a look at this article first for how to eliminate wing-waggle;

http://www.flitetest.com/articles/it-s-time-to-master-my-grouchy-old-fogey

You'll find scratch-build plans for the modified Old Fogey fuselage, and another sleeker Old Fogey style fuselage - "The Bush Fogey" here;

Plus there's this little nipper;

http://www.flitetest.com/articles/mini-staggerwing

...which I'll happily admit flies nothing like as well as the original;

http://www.flitetest.com/articles/stagger-wing-flat-shot-flying-penguin-rc

I'm currently working on a Sopwith Pup, though struggling with the nose detail and getting enough weight forward without adding ballast.

After that I liked the look of the early Albatros D2, with the matching upper and lower wings. Watch this space...

Cheers, alibopo.

Beautiful. Looking forward to the article. Puts mine to shame.

I must say building this plane is very easy and quick. However, mine need to retire eralier than I expected. It is way tail heavy and act weirdly. Even with the extra mod to the nose to give it longer version to compenesate the tail heavy, still I'm way out of it. Still looking to build more biplane in the near future.
