Hi Everyone,

For the folks going to Flite Fest it is going to be hot. The weather forecast for the whole week is 90 degrees plus. There is a heat wave coming to Ohio. For those people camping have a good supply of water. Remember folks, water is going to be your friend. Also have fun and try to stay cool.

What does registration look like this year? Is there a registration desk at the camping entrance like last year, open until 8pm on Wednesday night? If I arrive late, can I just set up on my assigned spot and take care of it in the morning? Thanks!

Have any of you guys been able to learn more about Josh's invitation in this video to come camp and fly at Edgewater in the days leading up to FliteFest this year? The Edgewater website isn't working for me, so I haven't been able to check the calendar on there for any special events. I don't plan on camping, but I would definitely drop by on my way to Carrolton if this was still happening!

FYI, it is going to be HOT. I have one of these sprayers that has never had anything but water in it. Works great for washing hands, and cooling off. Pump and spray/mist.

I'm planning on attending for the day friday to my first flite fest. A couple of questions.

1) Is it necessary to attend the 9:30am pilot meeting, or worth while to be there for it.
2) There aren't any open flying times on the friday schedule, do the scheduled themes take up most of the day?
3) Besides the mass events, are flights following any kind of flight pattern or is it free form? (To decide what to bring and what to leave home.)
4) I have a 10x10 canopy and a small generator, should I bring either of those? Flight line space still open on Friday? Available shade? Is public battery charging ok?
5) Is night flying popular at flitefest?
6) What time is a single day attendee expected to have left?

I’m no expert but I’ll try to answer with what I know:
1) IIRC they give some good info like weather in the meeting and talk about general safety. Don’t think it’s mandatory though, but if this is your 1st FF then it’s probably worth going
2) In the past, open flying has been between the special flights, so there should be plenty of time on Friday
3) I think it’s pretty free form—everyone generally tries to stay out of each other’s way and often end up in a pattern depending on the wind direction. There are flight line volunteers who could help you out if you get stuck, but IIRC the major rule outside the safety guidelines is just to call out launches and landings
4) There are power outlets in the build tents, but power strips can be useful. Charging LiPos unattended is frowned upon though. Not sure where you could set up your own tent if you don’t have a camping spot reserved, but the build tents are always an option for shade. And it’s really easy to find flight line space
5) Yes!

In case anybody sees this for next year.

2) There are 3 flight lines and pretty much the left and right one is open all day except for during combats.

3) Many people use the posted take off direction as a flight pattern, but there are literally flight stations every 20 feet from the left end of the event to the right end of the event and flying from a flight station is optional anyhow.

4) Plenty of room for a flight line 10x10 canopy. There are first come spots for a canopy all along the flight line except for at show center. No need for a generator unless you want to charge someplace not in a build tent, plenty of power in the build tents.

Another tip. Day parking is far from event center, shuttle is available, but a wagon would be very useful.

There were good showers, good food that wasn't that expensive. Build tents were a blast, especially late at night with the crazy Russians!

Peter was a disappointment. He wasn't very personable. Maybe I caught him at a bad time, or maybe he just didnt feel like chatting with "an old guy."

Don't know, don't care. If he shows up in combat, even with another super mega destroyer airplane, I'm gunning for it. ☠️

It wasn’t just you. I waited till everything was done and he was just standing around. Asked for a pic and just said yes. None of his usual charm or anything
