Not by choice, that's for sure. Our club runway is bordered by trees and the prevailing winds tend to be across the runway. Sometimes, you just have to roll with it.

That, or just practive VTOL On my field, I am usually described as "too cheap to buy/fly helicopters". And I have to admit, I did my best to earn that

It's funny how each flying group evolves it's own culture. My club was about 1/2 heli for a while ... now a lot of the guys have gotten into combat using inexpensive foamboard models. It should be what ever people enjoy and have fun with, but cultures have inertia and sometimes it's fun to work extra hard to catch up with the others and gain acceptance and respect in the pack.
