Status: Ready for maiden flight!

I present you the prototype of the ARGUS.

argus_frei_800.png

A 45mm spinner fits perfectly and completes the scale look!

Here are the GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS:
  • WINGSPAN: 1100 mm | 43.31 in
  • DRY WEIGHT: 502 g | 17.71 oz
  • ALL UP WEIGHT: 644 g | 22.72 oz (with 1300 mAh 4s)
  • CHANNELS: 4 (THR | AIL | ELV | RUD)
The ARGUS is a mixture of classic and modern FT building techniques. It uses the FT Mini Power Pod. The scaled ARGUS has a very short landing gear – it is a „low rider“ and for this scale look, you should use a 7" propeller with a 1400 kv 2212 brushless motor. The wheels have a diameter of 45mm (1.75 in). Of course you can build them yourself with the templates in the plan.

For the maiden flight I will use the following SETUP:
argusw010.jpg

The ARGUS works with the FT POWER PACK B. I will also add longer landing gear parts to the plan for using an 8" propeller and the FT Power-Pack B motor on 4s with the landing gear. If you don't want a landing gear, you can also build it as a belly lander.

Unfortunately the maiden flight was not successful! It took off well and then it turned right and dived the nose.

Then it hit the ground - too bad!

The brushless motor is undamaged! The spinner intercepted the impact. The battery is crushed.
The heat shrink tube of the ESC is torn, but it is still working correctly.

Now I build a new Argus out of my last four FT Foamboard sheets. I will change a few things on version 0.2, so stay tuned.
There is still some time until 31 January 2020.

@flitetest : Please send FT Foamboard to Graupner Germany! It's sold out!

Thanks for the the first flight report. It's only a failure if you don't learn something. That type of crash right after launch is consistent with having the ailerons reversed. Guess how I know? :p

She was so sleek and beautiful! What do you think the cause of the crash was?

It has a full acro wing, air outlets, an enlarged battery hatch and the landing gear is reinforced with BBQ-Skewers. Mounted is an Emax mt2213 kv 935 (compatible with FT Power Pack B) and an 8" propeller. The wingspan is 1100 mm (43.31 in) and the AUW with a 4s 1600mAh is 667g (23.53 oz).
