Help! How to remove servo from ft spitfire wing?

Hi all,

just noticed that the wing servo for my FT spitfire is not working. To replace it do I have to open up the wing? Or is there an easier way. I glued the servo extension connectors on the wing spar like Josh recommend. So now I cant even pull the servo free.

I really don’t want to open up the wing so if anyone here could tell me an alternative way I would be very grateful.

thanking you in anticipation,

ATK

If you can solder, than you can cut the wire of the old servo and solder it to the new servo.

I carefully cut around the servo to free it, usually with out any damage to the wing. Just drop in a replacement & glue it in place.

I'm not sure if it will work to get to the servo extension wires, but you can use denatured alcohol to break glue bond.

A good tip for the future, wrap your servo in electricians tape before you glue it in place. Then if you need to remove the servo, score the electricians tape peel it away and take your servo out. then you only need to remove the tape from the servo slot, a drop of IPA helps and a sharp scalpel.

I think most missed the part of hot glueing the wires in the wing, only alternative is as mentioned cut and solder the wires, unless you open up the wing. This is one reason I never glue servo wires in a wing.
Nope didn't miss that part I just offered a tip for easy removal of servos without having to demolish a wing. As for servo extensions, I never glue cables inside wings as they will be impossible to access once your wing is assembled. Just glue the two halves of the extension and servo cables together with some hot glue to stop them coming apart, other than that a small section of tape to secure the cable. Something you can pull out if necessary in future.
I have had servos fail on ARF models, non of those fortunately where glued in place.

If you don't need to reuse the extensions I would just cut the servo wire to free the servo and cut out the servo, then I would put in a new servo in it's place. I wouldn't care about gluing the extensions in.
