I want to buy the Freewing F9F 64mm as my first EDF, anything I should consider?

I guess the idea for having the F9F just stopped being affordable, with the batteries and the transmitter. Should I just get an FT kit once and for all, for EDF, like the Viggen or Retro Rocket?

Something like the P-40 is a good option from Flite Test if you're not looking to upgrade to a new transmitter and battery. If you have a dollar store near you that sell foam board, you can build most FT designs for a few bucks plus whatever you spend on the electronics.

Something like Viggen will fly on a 3s 64mm EDF, but most EDFs these days use 4s. All told, you can build a Viggen for under $100, but you'll still need a transmitter for it. If you plan on flying anything particularly advanced, you will either need to buy a more advanced transmitter of get very good at tiny stick movements. Most planes, FT planes included, benefit from having control over the rates.

If your big concern is the battery, the Freewing Lippisch is also a pretty good jet (better than the F9F in my opinion) but where a good enough pilot might be able to get away with flying the F9F without a programmable radio, the Lippisch is a flying wing with an extraordinarily fast roll rate which requires the correct mixing and rates. On the plus side, it uses batteries between 3s 1300 mAh and 3s 2200 mAh which it sounds like you might already have.
