I've been thinking of ways to do this with planes. It would probably involve magnets (maybe electro magnets) and a plug that only went one way and the magnets could couple up.
Another cool thing I thought of would be a reattachable glider release. Probably easier too. Once the glider gets low, you can magnetically reattach the tow plane and tow it back up again. Tow up, land the tow plane. Let the glider do its thing, take off again, reattach, tow back up, drop it, and repeat. You could do battery swaps on the tow plane and keep the cycle going for a long time, until the glider battery ran out.
