Construire Voler S'écraser Répéter

I was too impatient to wait for FT to release the Tiny Whoov speed build kits (announced in the last podcast), so I scratch built one today.
If you don’t know about the Tiny Whoov, it’s a micro hovercraft, built with brushed micro (inductrix, etc) parts. Here’s the original article - https://www.flitetest.com/articles/tiny-whoov
I slightly modified the original plans. Instead of glueing the motors to the foam mounts, I sacrificed an old whoop frame ducts to hold the motors. This meant that I needed to add a additional foam layer for the “raft” to get the needed height. I also mounted the FC (I used an old Dromida Ominus) under the main deck.
Because I was using the ducts, I needed to start with smaller holes. I roughed them out and sanded them to fit and be smooth. (Left rough, right finished)

Next I glued on the two rough layers of “raft”. I bevel cut the bottom one as an attempt to reduce the drag.

I sanded the outside edges to match and be smooth. I sanded the inside to be smooth too. I found that removing the bottom paper let me get a good, smooth, consistent edge for the bottom. Once I was happy, I wiped a thin layer of hot glue to improve durability. Just like for aircraft hinges, a little bit goes a long way. Remember, you want this hovercraft as light as possible.

Electronics installed!

Dry weight is about 23 grams

Here’s the maiden!!!
