For some reason I can't get failsafe to kick in correctly. I've just flashed the latest betaflight and set it up per the Joshua Bardwell tutorial on YouTube.

Instead of cutting out on TX loss, it seems to gradually spin up to full throttle.

I'm using an FS-i6 TX with an FS-iA6 RX (all channels set to Failsafe OFF on the RX via the TX menu).

Hiya Kaine83! Welcome to the FT Forums.

What RX are you using? Usually, the failsafe functionality is dependent on how your RX reacts to a dropped connection and not all of them are the same, as it depends on the manufacturer. You might google your manufacturer and RX model for failsafe setup to check on it. You will then need to setup *flight failsafe to work in conjunction with how the RX handles it (either throttle goes below a certain value, or PPM/PWM signals stop).

Thank you very much. I was trying to get the failsafe to be managed through Betaflight, but by doing what you said I've got it working fully managed by the TX/RX correctly now.

Why do people use the betaflight failsafe settings over the TX/RX way? are there advantages or side effects to either?

At least I know I can fly safely now. Shame it's raining!

Great! Glad to see you have it sorted out mostly.

As for your question why there's a separate *flight failsafe setup/configuration, well, the short answer is: flexibility.

Without going into all the different permutations, you can think of the *flight failsafe setup as a more advanced failsafe setup. The typical RX failsafe is either to "drop everything" or "keep on with the last command."

If you want flexibility to configure failsafe to say, enable a GPS return to home mode, or auto-land, or adjust the timing of the failsafe so that a momentary loss won't trigger it, then you need to adjust all the various options in the *flight failsafe setup.
