Yak 54

So I was looking around the forum and did not see any plans or attempts at making a yak 54. So I think I will give it a go this will be my first foam board scratch build on here. I am having a devil of a time finding balsa plans for one as well so if anyone has any please feel free to share otherwise I plan to grab foam board to start patterning and prototyping. I am not up to speed with the making of plans with anything more than cad so I will prototype the draw plans if anyone is interested. Let's hope this bird can 3d when it is all said and done.

my plan is a 3-D with a symmetrical airfoil. i’m planning on 40 inch wingspan just for simplicity of transport.

So tonight I dimensioned the basic plans and started laying out the front half of the fuselage. I am debating on whether I want to make it a removable wing or a permanently fixed wing.

I think I want to do something like this instead of using something like the rc groups yak. What % scale do y’all think a f pack motor and a 2s 800 would work?

it’ll be about the same size as the swappables so I think it should need a C power pack for power I’m thinking a 1500 mA 4 cell Similar to the FT Edge 540. With a yak having a 27 foot wingspan my math shows it at a 1/8 scale

todays Progress is cutting out a large portion of what will be needed for the interior structure of the fuselage. Trying a new style of spline with three laminated together with the vertical stabilizer separate to slide in after the other pieces have been glued up.

Awesome! You have to many batteries/chargers though. You must use power tools ALOT!

Yeah the edge 540 is a lot of fun to build and it’s a good flyer I have a destroyed one and still have one in my hanger

I was able to make a lot of progress today I assembled the bulk of the fuselage. I was able to test out the three-piece spline for the tail section it seems to have worked well. I was able to get the top hatch assembled and magnets Imbedded. I was able to cut out the mid wing skin and start assembly.
