As many knows here, im in much interest in making rare scratch builds from just designideas, prototypes, or planes of very low production numbers total.

One ive had in my plans for a long time is the MAK-10 made by a russian aviator designer who moved to France. This plane have many designideas influenced by typical typical russian designs of the earlyer times. But had a very unique style anyway. It doesnt have a very wide body, rather a bit thin one vs. the length. That gave some "buckles" on the front body, to make space for the French V-12 engine. It was also a open one seater, but had also space for one more further back, hided under a deckel. It also had some nice colors in design, Main was red, and rest was aluminium/ stainless steel. A beautiful long thinner design on all.
The most special here , was its telescopic wing ends, as a variable-geometry research aircraft, who changed the planes wingspan from 13m to 21m hydraulically.

The type 123 was even more "crazy" by length as a 6 seater, from me doesnt look as elegant though.

I started building with the last part of the foamboard here, (awaiting new load) and got to make the front fuselage to end of pilot cockpit.
Unshure of what size it get, but target is approx 1200mm long , who will give approx 1000mm wingspan retractet, and wings fully out approx. 1500-1600mm wide.

well, i did build it further... or at least painted it correctly, made the silvery aluminum parts strike out, Fixed mostly of the cockpit, all reinforing inside, eg. And well in my opininion, it seems gonna be a "dam good looking one" in my hangar. The silvery and flame red looks nice!

it absolutely does, it looks fantastic!
Thanks, i just like this type of style.....long, sleek fuselage as a30´s racer showing the power up front, and cockpit far back. The wing here is in shape quite "dull" ordinary, supposedly because support of the teleskopic wingpart inside, and a more simplicity make? The shiny alu "bands" around the tip of the main wings , does fit great to the shiny parts at other places of the plane though. And do the wing, even if quite square in shape.
I suppose it was a reason i stored info about this plane sometime... ;)

My solution for the telescopic wing system. Originally it was made hydraulic, with a manual back-up system. To make it electric with eg. a telescopic system it gets quite expencive and big, if wanted such a solution. (cheaper telescopic "servoassisted" is to be found, but then you will have a too long non-telescopic arm to begin with. And you would need space for a servo approx 2x2x1" . Thats not possible in this wing!
I needed a small but strong geared electric motor with pinion and rack, where the motor is fastned at outer wing, and the telescopic inner wing is moved by the pinion & rack lenght. I got it easy. Needed to make a reset of the pinion & rack height though, who made some extra work after already glued in... Grrrr... The geared motor is a minitype (N10 ?) used for medical equipment. Quite strong for its tiny size. Then also a brushed ESC to get forward/reverse function, and tiny end switches. :).

here you can see the geared motor, and the rack pinion.

What did you use for this part of the wing?
View attachment 244824

i used cardboard (aka from a frozen pizzabox :giggle: ) made a few v-cut in it to get it shaped best possible. You know this isnt the part holding the wing, its just for the look mainly. And this cardboard is easier to make at shape than from a foamboard. Used a little superlight wall filler to make the touch-up for looking best painted.
Another way is... why dont use the paperside we tore off the inside of a fuselage panel eg.? Thats great to use, if its like the like paper as on my type of foamboard. (i didnt remember use it my self here.

looking good!
Thanks! Yes... ;) it feels it gonna be as wanted, aka pictures of the original. I also have some other (bigger though) motors with pinions laying around, IF needs other ones than planned. I like this type of planestyle, even if not was planned to be a racer, it looks "speedy" standing still anyway!

when in need of two wheels in approx size 75-80mm diameter,. its quite easy find a file to print the wheel rims... but to find swamp or rubbertires in correct dimension? Well....Yes, i could bought them and waited approx 3+ weeks to get them delivered. Its was easier to get two rubberrings locally for use on the old Volvo 140/260 exhaust suspension (also a universaltype) :) I love to find solutions!

this build is close to end too.. Needs just awaiting more 9g servos (missing one for a aileron!
BUT, yes it did got to be looking great, and unique with the telescopic wings. Yes , later i gonna put up a video on it in function!

if somebody wonder what the rounded shiny alu deckel is, at rear from cockpit and in front of the tailfin, its the place for a second person, eg. a observer. This is as on the original plane. Ive stored the space for the tailservos inside there.

To make the "stripes" at the shiny outer part of the inner main wing, i used thin alurods and glued them on to get the "pressed effect as on original. .
