Bell YFM-1 Airacuda

In1937 aircraft company Bell made a try for government contract on a "multipurpose" airplane. It should be working as a fighter with heavy armament , a escort support for bombers eg. They came up with a unconventional, bizarre long-range and heavily armed escort fighter featured twin pusher engines housed in glazed nacelles with different armament as canons and machineguns.
1 prototype was first made, the XFM-1 "canonship", who was a taildragger, had engines who got hot because not enough airing. After this one . 12 YFM reworked versions was produsert, with a dropdome-styled rear side gunposts as the Catalina, minor change at nacelles views for canoner, better airing of engines (who anyway get to hot at idle before taking off, so Jeeps was needed for trailing the planes to the airfields take off.) All this 12 had a three cycle landinggear.

The measures needed to fitted batterysize in the front fuselage, and with a very narrow width it sets the size of my build too. 970mm long, and width then needs be approx.1400mm to be correct scaled. I decided to make outer wing parts detachable.

It was on my raadar for a time too, but "found reasons for delaying......". Most troublesome here is to make three "more or less eggshape cockpits... with lot of glassing.
Surface correction layer of spraypaint done, and some sanding. Its going forward more and more each day. :)

"very fun" :cautious:... i got one side outer wing ready... but missing foamboard for the underwing outer part at one side....lucky enough its in order and should be delivered in a couple of days (i hope).
I used a couple motors (DYS 2822 1100kv) laying around, who is just 3S capable motors after what specs says, even if know they could be pushed a bit. And not a very high rate of thrust either.. should fit here anyway, the plane isnt very heavy and dont need performance for straight vertical . The original wasnt a quick plane either ;). I just had a set 6x6 (or 8x5) props here, and just one 7x5 ( but in order now). will see whats fit best.

Some day with a lot of work I'll be half as good at finishing as you are! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
then its just to start building more!!!!  :ROFLMAO: .(ha,ha)
- superlight wall filler/spackle for minor touches of connections eg. One of my tips is using woodglue closing all places where foam is open (no paper) , and sanding , then im using typical hobby spraypaint, or car paint (no matte finish)....AND a coat or two with good clear coat! (not the cheapest, who always doesnt get fully shiny. ) I got full acces to car-paintsystem through a good neighbor working with some of it at home. Ive stopping much using a airspray gun, thats used just for details. For true painting im using a car paint touch-up spraygun.

Thanks!
