Hello
I'm in love with http://forum.flitetest.com/showthre...Build-Instructions&highlight=banditsjackrc+j3 That plane is the best one I have ever flown. If you haven't fly one... ... well, it's up to you..... you don't know what you miss....

I wanted to rebuild it for the third time, but this time i thought that .... I had to rebuild it in balsa. So, here I am...

So let's start with the wing. First we need to messure BaditJacks plans to try to be as accurate as I can.

IMG_20150906_193709813_HDR.jpg

Then start to draw the plans. I think, probably is going to be slightly heavier so lets do the wing slightly bigger....

IMG_20150906_201331931_HDR.jpg

Now lets draw the airfoil.

Next step is translate that to real balsa...

IMG_20150907_102347302.jpg

... and glue it around a pine stick

IMG_20150907_111712267_HDR.jpg

Now let's cut it to make space for the ailerons.

Wingtips are left

IMG_20150909_215124743.jpg

Lets reinforce the wings with a 1mm balsa sheet

Looks like it's going to be another nice one.

Something I'd like to know from all of you "expert" builders is what do you bring to the table when building RC? What kind of backgrounds do you all have that let you design and build such nice stuff? Should probably start a thread with that question :)

To be an 'expert' you need 10,000 hours in your craft.

I think 'experts' are 'experts' because they don't get bored with something. They seem to be insatiable learners who see repeated failures as the foundation for success. To an 'expert' it is not a question of if, but simply when as they will never quit trying until they succeed.

I think an expert brings to the table intense curiosity balanced by deep patience.

The rest of us are still working on our 10,000 hours, one successfully crashed machine after another. :)

The project is not going as fast as I wish, but step by step I think I can finish it un two weeks. ... crossed fingers...

The wing is already done and the rudder and elevator too. Next step is to make a motor mount....

Thanks a lot @Spastickitten and @RCman50, Oh yes! It's doable :D

Now comes the part I like less. First the wheels. I'm very baaaaaad bending piano wire and usually have a hard time with it. I glue it with epoxy.

IMG_20151003_212221974.jpg

Installing the electronics is also a tedious and not very rewarding activity

But covering the fuselage with the iron and heat gun is always fun

family, faith, foam, fun!
Wow starting to come together beautifully. Keep up the great work. This caught my interest because i thought about doing the same thing while flying my bj piper cub one evening.
Watching and enjoying!

Thanks RCman50, means a lot, really. I'd love to see your balsa version of this wonderful plane!:D:)

I've done some more progress with it. I've put windows, and also some more accesories. I guess tomorrow the mailman will bring me the receptor and we can say it's finished.

I tried an experiment with a moveable tail wheel, but I'm not sure it will be strong enough.
It's also slightly tail heavy, a shame, i think i'll have to put extra weigh in the nose..

Maiden was a success. In the first flight the control rates were wayyyyyy to high, but I could landed and correct that....

First flight, RATES TOO HIGH:
