Brushless esc strange behaviour

Hi all, I’m Ramon, just new to the forum, flying for 2 years now.

I just got a second hand plane, of which the esc behaves weird!
It’s a Hk-Hw 30a esc. The motor is fine.

The problem starts when I plug in the battery, the motor beeps and tells how many cells etc.
Then it suddenly starts playing Für Elise!
After throttling up the motor does work, but slowly loses power and stays running at about 30% power.

See video in the reply

After I made the video I tried programming using the tx but no effect.
All settings are back to normal.

Thanks

That is indeed weird.
Sometimes ESC's just go bad. It may be time to replace it

I know, but I’m that person who doesn’t give up that easily… maybe someone has encountered the same problem and fixed it.

Miracles happen, and even more so in aircraft modeling.1. Have you tried changing the battery? I faced a similar problem: 1 battery pack was discharged 3S 2200 mA and the engine speed dropped sharply.Do not buy ONBO batteries!!!! And you will not feel sorry for the money thrown away (anti-advertising of very bad batteries). 2. The regulator does not smoke and was start - it is working and serviceable. 3. In the village at the cottage, I have a lot of instructions on programming regulators, but I will go there only at the end of next week. I would try to change the settings using the transmitter and eventually get back to the correct ones. My advice is to take a pair of reliable 2S and 3S working batteries and test them.Write about the results. And write the engine model, the full model of the regulator and your battery, type 3S 60c 2200mA....

Thanks a lot,
I’ve tried many batteries, no difference. I think it does not depend on voltage at all.

The motor (unnamed, 1100kv) does work perfectly with another esc for now.
First another project going on, and busy life starting in a week.
I may upload when its fixed. Or anything else going on.

With stuff like this I don’t give up immediately, but if it gets this weird…
At least I could maiden my plane with another esc!

Sounds like somebody modded/ customized the ESC firmware. Am I correct in guessing you picked it up used? You can upload all sorts of songs via the firmware updater/configurator.

Yep, it’s used, and maybe he indeed customised the firmware or anything. It was funny until I found out it wouldn’t stay at full throttle, even with fully charged 2/3S packs.
Thanks a lot!

"And write the engine model, the full model of the regulator" ??? I can't find the instructions for setting up the regulator without its name." I'm not a wizard-I'm just learning.."

The regulator says HK-HW-30A esc
3A bec
Programmable with turnigy card (I don’t have that)

The motor still unknown, diameter 28mm
Weight about 60 grams

I have no more information

The ESC has obviously been reprogrammed. None of the 50 ESC that I have used have ever played a "proper" tune so unless you have the capability & kit to reprogram it you will just have to put it to one side for now.
As for Mode1 inverted!

There is such a regulator in my garage and it also sings "To Eliza". Next weekend I will look at the instructions for this series of programmers. They can be programmed from the transmitter if there is no programming card. These regulators are not flashed to new firmware - it is just fine. It will be enough for you to change the settings according to the instructions via the transmitter.

Thanks everyone for your help.

I’m putting it away for now and who knows I’ll ever get a clue on how this thing works.

UPDATE: I was trying around again using a 3S lipo and once I re calibrated it,
It still sings fur Elise but steadily holds full throttle! Even on 2S it seems to work now.
So problem fixed! No idea why this didn’t happen before but it seems to work now 😃
Thanks again
