Crazybee F4RF Lite won't bind to transmitter

So, the FC appears to be operating correctly. It starts with the red blinking light, I hit the bind button, it changes to a solid red light which is bind mode. I hit the bind option on my transmitter and it beeps about 4 times, but the FC red light never begin blinking again to indicate it is bound. Betaflight never loses the RXLOSS flag to prevent arming so it does not appear to be bound. I tried to bind both a Radiomaster Zorro with 4-1 module using Frysky D D8 and I tried a Taranis QX7 using Frysky D8 mode. Of course Betaflight is set for SPI, frysky D. No joy. How could I troubleshoot whether the Frysky SPI is working? It seems to function normally, it just doesn't bind. I've tried starting bind mode with the CLI and with the FC bind button. I've tried putting the transmitter into bind mode first then powering the FC and vice versa. Is there a way to test if the antenna is operating correctly? I'm all out of ideas. When you put the receiver into bind mode is the transmitter turned off? Is the transmitter and the board on the same firmware version?

The transmitter, zorro, uses EdgeTX and the FC, crazybee F4FR lite, uses Betaflight. I have them both set for Frsky D and D8, is that what you mean?

The receiver and transmitter have to be on the same version of software from what I understand to bind.
