Dream workshop

Hey gang. I've moved into a new place and have the opportunity to build my dream workshop in my garage. I am looking for ideas and inspiration. What do you have in your workshop that you're really proud of or works really well for you?

I am thinking of getting little buckets that I can sort all my parts into, servos, motors etc.

(I'm trying to be as organized as possible)

Any ideas are welcomed.

u should get like a ton of those boxes with tiny compartments to sort everything

a laser cutter
every form of glue and every time of saw
a dedicated charging paddock

A seperate garage to keep your car in. Stored stuff always exceeds the capacity of the allocated storage facility. Universal.law.

So you want to be as organized as possible, huh? In that case, buy the best 3D printer you can. You're going to be printing a lot of what's called Gridfinity.

#1 priority is good lighting. Plenty of online guides for workshop lighting, so I won't bother with more detail here.

If you have stationary tools, consider putting them on wheels; mobility is rarely a bad thing.

Don't waste space with deep workbenches. I have a 4'x8' work table against one wall of my living room and only the first 2' or so are actually reachable/useful. The other half against the wall just gets piled with junk I have to look at all the time. Keep your storage solutions off your work surfaces; drawers and shelves above or below are fine, but organizers/drawers/shelves sitting on the table are rarely as useful you think they'll be (in my experience, anyway).

Double or triple task as much space as you can.

10/10 would recommend a 2x4 workbench with tons of storage above and below. Pick a good height where you are comfortable working standing up, but could also get a high top chair to sit at. Here is one I built around some old closet doors as the shelf/table surfaces:

Liked it so much I actually built 3 :)
