First Flight - 3 Tips to Give

Hey,

I just wanted to hear some tips from the forum members about ...

What do think about on your first take off. When the plane is in the air and your excited, you seem to forget everything.

What 3 things should you keep in mind on your 1st take off?

Things I learned.

#1 - Go up high in the air, 3 mistakes high.
#2 - When you know your going to crash kill the throttle.
#3 - Don't try to do loops your 1st day.

1. Expect some sort of crash
2. You can never have enough spare props
3. A bad day at the field is still better than a good day almost anywhere else

1. You can avoid a bad day at 'the field' by being conservative
2. gain altitude first
3. adjust trim when you get to altitude

#1 Check your control surfaces one final time
#2 Make small inputs, don't over correct
#3 If you are heading towards the ground uncontrollably, cut throttle and try to level the airplane

A. Check your control surfaces, when you set up, and right before you take off. You could have bumped something, you might have overlooked that the ailerons are backwards, any number of things can happen that a last minute check could catch.

B. You're going to crash. Lots. It's all part of the learning experience. Make sure that where you crash will be a safe place. Hope that no one is watching, especially friends, they can be relentless.

C. Practice your landing runs. Do it up high, find out where you have to start, and get a feel of how fast the plane does, or doesn't drop. Then work lower and lower until you land.

1. Make sure that trims are at neutral and your rates are set where you want them. Any modes you need are properly selected.
2. Make sure control surfaces respond how they should and return to neutral and CG is correct.
3. Make sure you launch into the wind at 75% throttle and let her gain speed and climb before maneuvering.
