Just thought i would upload some pics on my current build. After several foam board builds i purchased a VAS specter which is made out of EPP and than laminated. I was so impressed with its durability that i wanted to start scratch building with EPP. But i did not want to get into hot wire cutting just yet. So i thought i would try using 6mm (1mm thicker than foam board) epp sheets. I would use the exact same build process as foam board. Instead of hot glue i would use gorilla glue and some contact adhesives.
I was able to purchase some 6mm thick 24 inch by 36 inch 1.3 EPP shipped for around $5 a sheet. This FPV48 wing took me 6 sheets. My friend, after seeing my build, was able to get it down to 4 sheets. I used about 5 1000mm carbon fiber spars that are 3mm thick. I am using 5mil laminate. Total cost for this air frame sits around $50 shipped, not including glue.
Here are my pics so far in order:
I have been following fpvtrond's instructions just like i was using foam board. Only difference is the glues and Laminate instead of tape. Really happy with the build so far. Epp is really great stuff to work with. Cuts so much easier than foam board. Will update as i continue the build.
