From my experience they are pretty strong with tape over the wing join, but I would still add a skewer or something in there as it wouldn’t hurt to have extra strength.
Think I will put a aluminum spar in. ( I still have some left from the NNspit.)

More progress on the NN spit! I made some cool mods!

My fuselage in progress.....

Added Coffee stirs to help prevent flexing of the control rods.

And now comes my cool mod! I used foam board instead of the original poster board! (I hate poster board!) I used the original turtle deck poster board for a template.....
1738977676911.jpeg

Cut to the right size. (I had to change the width of the piece for sitting on top of the fuselage vs. extending down the sides of the fus.) molded it like a Maser Series, and cut down the formers to condensate for the thickness of the foam. (also snacked on some very good homemade raisin bread fresh out of the oven:))

And ended up with a very nice solid foam turtle deck!

I then put on the side flarings at this point. (my least favorite part in the whole build!
1738978147647.jpeg

I manufactured my own firewall.
1738978180558.jpeg

Test fitted the motor. (yikes! its a tight fit!,I had to carve a little material off the part underneath the motor.)

1738978268195.jpeg

I then made my own piece for the front, I skipped using a former in the front because its only really necessary with poster board. I just eyed it up and cut out my piece and cut to the right size.)

To be continued in next post......

Did the same for the middle piece.

Then I made a very nice hatch, and reinforced the edges of the foam so it wouldn't delaminate with use.

And it's looking pretty good so far!

I really like the way that the foam looks vs. the poster board!

You can use foam board for that.
Cut the shape, remove the inner paper, use a smooth slick marker or similar, to slowly rub/crush the foam while on a cylindrical shape like a pipe, can, etc.
@Splinter189 (John O) even does this in a few of the MS build vids.
Here's a clip....

If you look at the rest of the pictures you can see how I did do that. :)

Oh, my mistake. The filets/fairing look to be a little different shade of white relative to the other foam board parts, so...my bad. Carry on, brother!
Oh, no the fairings are poster board. (I couldn't think of a way to mold them backward without wrinkling the paper.)

Unless you peeled the paper on the opposite side.
Yeah, but then it would look funny with the paint job. I have been thinking for the sr-71 on how to do that, if you took a heat gun you might be able to soften the foam enough to allow you to form it the other way....

No. The paper is removed from the inside. Still has paper on the outside. Watch the build vid.
