Help! New to RC Flying - FT Simple Cub

Hey folks, my son in middle school is doing a project about airplanes and how they fly. I thought a great way to understand this would be to build a FT kit, and then we could learn some things together. Of course, it also gives me an excuse for another hobby we can do together! I picked up the FT Simple Cub kit and power pack, and we see that we also need a battery, charger, and transmitter/receiver/controller. Is there a battery that will last longer and work with the cub kit vs others? What the heck kind of charger should we get? Also, we looked at a transmitter that might allow us to do what we want and grow with this hobby, but I don't know if it's too complicated for an 8th grader. It's the
Radiolink AT10II 2.4G 12 Channel. Is that overkill for someone just starting out? I know, lots of questions...thanks in advance for any guidance.

Welcome to the best hobby ever! :p For a first plane, I’d recommend a lighter battery to keep the wing loading down so it flies slower. Anything from a 1000 to a 1500 would be perfect. As far as a charger goes, I really like venom chargers (I use the pro duo.) There are a ton of transmitters out there that will work well and get you going - I personally love Spektrum, but they are definitely on the more expensive side.

Thank you kindly for your advice. I wasn't thinking about the weight as much, so that's a good reminder. I'll look into the venom chargers and I think whatever we end up going with, I'll update the post with our choices in case it's helpful to others. Thanks again!
