Phantom V2 - DLG - design build

First day back to work and an opportunity to plan the next steps in the build - the wing joint seems pretty good - I glued in a new horizontal stabiliser pull string arm and checked the fit onto the boom mount - I also bit the bullet and painted the tail fluorescent orange - I will also use this on some wing colour/stripes (undecided how at the moment.

Next I will try and get the wing mounted on the fuse so I can evaluate the balancing and my target boom length!

The wing is fitted using the 3D print drilling jig to get it centred and spaced to the mounting bosses - there are epoxy hard points where the screws go through but I added some CA after drilling to further harden the holes - I also fitted the 3D printed faring (it just needs a wee tickle with the sand paper) - next I will add my CG points and look at the boom length and the balancing.

I have the layout of the servos and battery etc sorted to have maximum nose weight - I started sanding back the tail as the paint was surprisingly heavy - just sanding one section removed 2g so I prefer to remove it and save up front - I am a bit heavy at 295g and think it is from too much epoxy in the wing and 10g on nose ballast - either way it is time to begin the install and tickle up the presentation!

Removing all the paint from the tail has saved me 6g at the tail - I am sure this will give me back some flexibility up front.

The aileron pushrods will connect to a make and break hinge (similar to the Phantom V1) - this means the aileron torsion arms will plug into these hinges for an easy make/break wing and hidden components - the pilot holes are cut into the fuse and the hinge arms and push rods are assembled - next, the hinge arms need a hinge pin to mount onto the fuse.

A bit more prep for the aileron/flaperon push rods and hinge - it looks like a nice straight run for the push rods - I bent up a prototype for the hinge pivot mounts to be glued into the recess - I am considering soldering them together but that will depend on assembly of the parts into the fuse (next step).

The dry fit of the hinges looks promising - I just need to open up the holes to allow for a bit more hinge throw then I will lock and load - a wee tickle up of the nose cone too!

The hinge and push rods are in place and I have rebated the wing to fit over the hinge parts - I also added some thickened epoxy to strengthen the rebate.

Not much time today, but I got the flaperons cut in - the wing assembles to the fuse over the flaperon hinges nicely so I am relieved.

Not a lot of time today but the aileron servos are glued in - I opted for the Bluebird A10's as they are as 'grunty' as an X08 and one of my MKS servos was jittering in the V1 - hopefully all will be well!

Many small steps this week - a bit of a fiddle to get all the servo wires in but we are there now - next will be the pull strings.

I am currently planning my 2x 200mAh 2 cells in parallel (rather than the 600mAh 1 cell) as the nose weight.
