The "HydroJet" EDF Seaplane

my way to strengthen 1 thickness foamboard and make a nice Trailing Edge on wing.

1. i cut out a "deep" V triangle in the TE edge as wide as the thickness of the foam, and remove the cutout. That leaves only approx the paper on both sides back on the end.

2. hot glue into the cutout, and edges pressed flat together with a alu stick/ or other object, squeezing out the extra glue..
(can also be used other type of glue, but then needs taped edge till dry..)

3. The "wing"-part is kept at angle at table, eg. 20 - 30 degrees (adjusted to fit) , that gives a more "uniform" shape on upper/lower side.

Held till dryed, and gets a nice shape as on the TE as at picture to right.

it got its box-wings :)! intake ducts ready (not glued inner part because nedd access to compartment to install the EDF. )
And the floats reposisioned. Even got the 2litre plastic mineral waterbottle needed for the canopy...

That made a big difference to my eye anyway. Looks much better with the lower wing for some reason. Looking at the original fantasy painting I imagined the lower wing and hydrofoil hinging and retracting up together into the top wing and fuselage. And maybe its lauched at speed from inside a giant stealth ship so it doesnt have to float. Just my imagination lol.

Imagination is a great thing! :) to make the floats eg retractable will be a "pain in ass" mainly also because the floats could never can disappear fully.... they are too long anyway :) Agree that it looks much better with the lower wing too, it one off things that makes this plane something extra .... for the eye!

made up the tailfin.
Vertical fin is by two sides of foamboard as a profile. into this from bottom and up is a wooden spar with foamboard to make fit fully. This again is fastned to a pvc foam part (the rounded part under the tail section.) thats gonna fit exactly between thrust-tube and rear fuselage skin. That gives the tailfin strength. And the fin is thick enough to put in servos even with ther outer surface.
Also the idea have a triangleshaped horizontal stab. I found that the rear part will not needed be divided because the center section, i just let the centersection stay on top of fin with the front section , the rest moving as stabilizer.
On the bottom of the fin, some centimeters up, it will also come a fuselage part, stabilizing the tail even more...

I suppose its easy to see, that ailerons and rudder gonna be cut loose, and hinges used.

i forgot, and forgot make picture... Thrusttube:
I made it in thin plastic board cutted to fit, and glued together with a overlay approx 20mm.
EDF end got a foamboard circle cutout at 75.7mm, other end a 61mm exhaust diameter. 285mm long. to make it.
That said fits a 70mm EDF for best performance at static thrust and speed.

W O W. This is looking amazing, Personally I think the floats are a bit short, and might make the plane tip over. When you fly, can you post some videos? I have never actually seen your planes fly, and it would be interesting to see this one.

about tipping over..... thats all about weight placement/CG. The floats have quite good boyance, and weight is much distrubited against center.
Floats have its CG value, and thats in front of the airplanes CG. Step on the floats are behind the CG on airplane, as should. The front seems have a long "overhang", that doesnt matter, when the weight isnt up there. And the shape on float legs to fuselage, is also screwing up the mind too feel its longer forward than is. Normally on a front engine airplane floats are approx 70% of aircraft length, with a 10-15% in front of prop to balance the plane at water because weight up front. It isnt like that here. Floats are approx 55% of fuselage length here, but dont have any weight mainly at front, and my CG on this plane is behind center of fuselage, even wings here are quite far rearward... And thats also one reason for my water floattests, to check the boyance. Pushing down at front and rear at water, shows if boyance is good or not.... here it was :)
This is even one of the planes where i havent made the cockpit as hatch for someting electronics (battery, reciver,eg. Here it isnt removable. Battery/electronics is going into fuselage behind the canopy.
Just research on the Convair Sea Dart, aho is close to only jet seaplane that can be compared with.. even if thats a hydrofoil type. But quite short foils, but enough to get its fuselage out of water by speed.

should i made it more like the original art idea, they should been longer rearward....thats not a point, because weight isnt as rearward distributed that needed more boyance there.
And, the feeling of the long long forward fuselage, is one thing that makes this plane nice, it gives it a far more aggressive look ;)
another thing is... if need canards? That will time show, when testing :)

I will make videos when up in air.

Where do you post your videos? I never see them.
im posting in some posts through Youtube, but it hasnt been much flying to show, because bad camera stuff. One angle wasnt nice .. ;) when see plane just short window., Now ive got good enough recording items to take with me, so hopefully better ones further on. .
