The Mongrel Project.

Mongrel is now offline due to a broken wing spar, the result of several crashed related to the double tail boom from the Skyhunter. It apparently doesn't have enough vertical surface and is prone to loosing yaw stability with resulting flat-spins that I cannot recover from. This is despite using different controller and servo combinations.
For now, some LED parts are being transferred to Phoenix to make it night-flyable. The motors have been removed to reallocate them back to the set of 4 matching drone motors for a future drone, or possibly a flying 1/10 rc car experiment.
Will be reverting to the Phoenix thread primarily for the near future until Mongrel is rebuilt.
Here are the current photos....

I wasn't sure, thinking of doing something crazy like trying to putting the 9 inch drone motor setup and make a 1/10 scale Traxxas Stampede go airborne....
....... or rebuilding Mongrel using the 4-motor setup and the twin boom tail from the Skyhunter, and building the beer can bomber (full 12 oz beer/soda can bomb payload). I would probably be borderline to giant scale at a 70" wingspan and the power system would be the full matching set of motor/ESC from a DJI Phantom 2.
I can't quite make up my mind.

I tried the twin tail boom setup on Mongrel. It did the same weird spin-outs as on the Skyhunter. A wing finally broke during one of the crash landings.
Mongrel has since been stripped down and will be rebuilt soon, with the 4 motor/ESC set from the Dji phantom 2 and using the 9.4x5 props on 4S. Wingspan may increase to 72 inches.
The twin tail boom setup will be used, but with larger scratches built vertical stabilizers instead of the little stock ones. I will probably loose what's left of the helicopter frame, and Mongrel will end up being a Mongrel Skyhunter.
Here are the last pics for this one.....
