A couple of Transmitter / Receiver questions for a beginner..

Hi guys,

So, I recently purchased some used equipment to help me get started. I have an E-flite Apprentice, with the "SAFE" receiver but no transmitter. I've also got an E-flite Mini Ultra Stick that is paired to a Spektrum DX6 Park Flyer edition. I've also ordered a DX6E bundled with an AR610 receiver.

I've already pretty much confirmed that the "DX6 Park flyer" is an obsolete transmitter and is probably only compatible with the AR6000 receiver that I'm not likely to find anymore. What I'm wondering is if there is a possibility that I can pair the receivers in the planes I currently have with the new DX6E transmitter.

I'm really hoping that I can pair up the receiver in the Apprentice because that seems like a cool system and would make this large and brittle airplane easier for me to get comfortable using, but are all bets off on the AR6000?

For that matter, is it considered "Safe" or "Normal Practice" to use a radio system that says "Park Flyer" right on the transmitter for an airplane like the Mini Ultra Stick? I have not flown it yet but I can already tell it has enough potential power to get away from an inexperienced pilot in a hurry.

Thanks all in advance for your replies and I hope this isn't a redundant post, I did some searching before I made the new thread.

The DX6e will work with the Apprentice. Here's a similar situation with setup info: https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?2791647

Spektrum "Park Flyer" gear has reduced RF range, which may or may not be a problem for your particular flying area. All newer Spektrum radios are supposed to be backwards compatible but even if you do get the AR6000 to bind with the DX6e, you'd be better off (and safer) with a Spektrum AR610 or AR400 DSMX receiver or Lemon RX DSMX-compatible receiver with the Mini Ultra Stick.

This is pretty much what I was thinking too and in fact looking at the PDF manual for the park flyer series, the first page warns not to use that system on anything but a park flyer so I have to assume there's a good reason for that. The guy I bought it from has flown it plenty with this setup and he's obviously never had any problems because the plane is in excellent shape and the only damage is a small spot on the monokote in the underside of the fuselage that doesn't even look like it was related to a flying mishap.

At any rate, perhaps the best thing to do with this one is as you mentioned, discontinue my use of the park flyer receiver and transmitter and get an AR610 receiver so I can have all of my models paired to a single transmitter and hey! I bet there's somebody out there that would want that radio and transmitter anyway. So I could always put the pair up on ebay or something and possibly get back the money I spent on the plane/transmitter combo.
