Aero L-39 Albatros V2 - EDF Jet

Almost done and ready for maiden crash😏. Was concerned about very warm esc during test so I’ve added a vent at on the bottom of the fuselage for cooling with a dime size hole in the former seperating the EDF compartment and the battery compartment. Drop tanks are 3D printed.

Thanks, but I just realized I made a bone head mistake. The EDF I used was a 11 blade FMS 50 mm thinking it was the 4s version....WRONG. It's the 3S (5400KV) not the 4500KV.
A week or so ago I was concerned of that the ESC was getting hotter that I like when I was testing with a 2300 50C 4S. So I stopped and added vents in the battery bay. Today after finishing the half a$$ paint job, I wanted to test the heat on the ECS. Well, the vent did it's job, but after 2 minutes at half throttle with a few bursts the EDF slowed down as if I had no battery left. And then I thought to myself.....did I install a smoke trail system?

Well to make a long story short, I apparently ordered the wrong EDF. I tried the EDF after it died (after 10 seconds or so at very low RPM) and it sounded OK and the smoke stopped.

So my next question is will this thing fly with a 3S, or will I be under powered? Not like I can just rip out the EDF and replace it without destroying the enter thing.

BTW this is my first EDF...live and learn

Thoughts?

@dehager built and flew his on a 3s fan. He did a bit of work to lighten his up though, his final weight was 483 grams ready to fly. If you're near this weight when it's ready to fly you should be fine on 3s!!

Though yall might like an update.

Beautiful new thrust tube. I am going to have to change or modify the aft of the fuselage to accommodate the larger exhaust. I decided to go ahead and use a plastic 70mm 12 blade EDF instead of the aluminum 68mm unit.

Prototype V stab with rudder and thrust tube.

H stab and elevator are more or less shaped and ready to go when I finish the fuselage.
Hello..A0 plans is availble ?Thanks

My MiG15 flys well at 24oz AUW (wing loading is 15.19 oz/sqft) on a 50mm FMS unit. I fly it with a 3S 3000mAh battery for balance. If you're using a smaller capacity battery then make sure it has a high C rating - for some reason it seems to make a huge difference with the FMS 3S 50mm units. Awesome paint job, Mate!!

Built a new 70mm. Instead of the 3d printed fan that I had in the last one, I put a PowerFun 70mm 6s unit in this one. Built with a 7.8mm carbon rod in the wing, 5mm carbon rods in the horizontal and vertical stabs, and 13g digital servos. 1408g wjth the 4000mah 6s pack. Getting ready to maiden, fingers crossed.

Oh boy! 6s, that's gonna be insane!! Hopefully it flies! I'd love to see some video, I bet it's gonna haul the mail!

I have the same fan in my new L-39. Still
Need to finish it and get it in the air. Sorry for your mishap.

The damage really wasn’t that bad. I glued it all back together and flew it again today. Went better this time. It’s fairly quick. And you have to keep the speed up when banked over pulling in a turn or it does a weird stall. My 50mm L-39 would do the same thing but at a much lower speed. I’m sure it’s just the weight of my battery. It’s probably a little big for the plane.
