I have no clue how to fix my dads gas engine...

So here's the story:
Today I had a spark of inspiration to get my dads old RC plane, and fix whatever is wrong with it.
Turns out, the gasoline motor never worked, my Dad says that it probably need a glow plug. Would that work?
He says the engine was either called a hornet or a stinger or something like that.

Thanks in advance!
Dave

Maneuvering With Purpose
That is not a gasoline engine. It is a glow or nitro engine. Glow plugs are something that are routinely worn out and replaced.

Look up how to hook it up to a 1 1/2 volt starting battery. If it glows red it should be fine. Other than that, as long as you have good compression, and it draws fuel through the carb, you should be good.

The needle valve can be critical. Try to find the manual and look up where the starting position is. Unless you see better, screw it all the way in, and then back it out about 3 1/2 turns. You'll probably need to experiment some with the setting. What size is the engine? .15? .19?

Good luck!

Looks like a small control line Glow engine.

One of the parts (the round one) in your hand is a "clunk" it goes on the very end of the fuel pick up line that located inside the fuel tank, (not where you have it in the first pic).

The cylinder head appears to be missing a major part that holds the glow plug.

Wow nitro motor on polystyrene plane. Thats got some age to it. Get some better side pictures please and I will try n find exactly what this is. Also any markings on the plane even if its outlines of where old stickers used to be.

Yeah, this thing is upwards to 21 years old. My dad was flying these things with his buddies right when he got married.
Again, sorry for being so clueless! The only RC plans I've ever flown were ready out of the box.
Here's some photos, and I looked back in his closet, no sign of what the plane is or any manuals on how to start it.

Is there a place online that I can look for the correct part?

New breakthrough!
I've found what company the glow engine is from, and my dad believes it is an older version of this AP Hornet.

Do you think replacement parts for this engine would work on older models as well?

Ahh that logo on the side was AP... I found tons of info this afternoon on the hornet motors. I also read the newer editions match the older editions at least for the Cylinders inserts and glow plugs so as long as the type is correct then it should be fine with newer parts. Someone even said the .049 glow plug would cross over to the Cox .049 motors as well. Just keep in mind there are .049 and .051 sizes of that motor. So be sure which one you have.

Your motor looks more like a Wasp http://https://hobbyking.com/en_us/ap-061a.html

If you look at the side of the engine below the exhaust it should show the engine size, what size is yours?

This is the "Clunk" part I mentioned in the previous post
