Yeah I was guessing because I don't have one yet.

Future proofing makes me want one more, it means they put some serious thought into the design.

I have a spm4648 that I want to try with it on a Simple Scout. I plan to use it as my go to for quick trips to the field.

I'm looking at this exact thing right now. In the FT store you can get the rx with the cable separate or presoldered for $10 more.

The image for the pre-soldered one has a 3-pin connector. The unsoldered one appears to be packaged with a 4-pin wire bundle.

You only use three of the solder pads you just cannot see the fourth pad because of the connector.

Exactly. But on the other end of that wire lead is a 4-pin connector. You'll either have to swap that out to a 3-pin or...
Maybe it works in the 4-pin connector on the Aura.
Maybe they should explain that in the Aura info/documentation.

They put the extra pad in for future use from what they said ..the manufacturer of the Aura
