I want to do the same thing for my school. I recommend getting a teacher involved mainly for support in case some people don't like the idea. If there is an engineering or physics teacher, that could double as support and help in some ways.
As a former president and founder of an RC flight club at a college, I would highly recommend purchasing a couple of planes to smash. Our club's inventory is currently the following.
4 sets of cheap hobbyking programmable radios/receivers
4 sets of motor/esc
we are planning on buying a couple champs (to replace the ones we have smashed) and possibly an inductrix
Members buy the servos, and leave the powerpods and radios at the school, but can take their creations home with them.
Also, if you have the funds, get a radio that can be connected to the computer (basically anything with buddybox capacity)and let the members crash a ton where the only repair is a quick trip to the "reset key"
