Monkey never comes anymore. He blames it on his job, as if running a state park is really a job. I mean, so a couple of people drown and a couple more get eaten by alligators. Seems like he's full of himself.

tourism is a big deal in FL [at least many parts of it], it makes sense that a job that is focused on supporting 'tourism' related stuff is likely to be very busy during the summer.
