I'll be camping all weekend with my wife. Signed up as a pilot. Does my wife need to pay as a spectator even though we are camping there?

Not the official answer, but . . . .

usually at events like these the campsite reservation only covers your tent/RV not the people occupying it.

I'd love to do this as a father son trip and I'm trying to price everything out to see if we could swing it. The biggest issue is that We'll be coming from Texas and bringing along everything you need to camp won't be possible as we will be flying. Are there other accommodation options near by?

My goal is to have multiple hotel options under $100 per night. Unfortunately most of the hotels will be about 25-35 minutes away from the flying field. But that's just the nature of needing as much acreage as we do.

I just submitted for a group rate for multiple hotels. I will list prices and links as soon as I hear back.

I'd probably be one to take advantage of those special hotel rates....

10 year wedding anniversary pretty close to FF.......

Questions I just got asked:

Can a spectator be upgraded to a pilot on site later?

Is the camping pass per person or "spot"? -> per camping spot

Is there a difference between tent and motor home camping?

Are you gonna be attending Flitefest? If so, how're you planning on transport?
Just good ol' fashioned pay for a flight?

Everyone - I got the thumbs up from the wife, and considering coming down with my camper. Can anyone tell me how the campsites are setup? I have a 40' fifth wheel (50 AMP or 30 AMP if I dont run the microwave). :) Also - water? I have a big holding tank that will last me the weekend.

If worse comes, I will probably just get a hotel, but would really like the experience of staying at the field!

Disregard the last guys - I research the 2014 setup. :) I'd have to run my generator. Maybe staying 5 minutes way isnt bad.

Fill your tank and go to the field. Staying on-site is SO nice!

While the site is at the home of Austin's parent's, it is quite accommodating in terms of space. Register as soon as you can. They are prepared for large RVs and travel trailers. You will be parking in a hay meadow. There will be no amenities in terms of fresh water or sewer. There will be no electric hook-up.

We brought a pop-up last year and will be bringing it again this year. Also had a portable generator which was running most of the day. We shut it off at night so people could sleep. :) I don't think running your generator will be a problem. The build tents are powered off rental generator equipment as well, so I'm pretty sure they will be fine with you running yours. I'd camp there if you can.

Thanks... I am talking it over with the wife, and since it will be me with no kids, the 40' fifth wheel may be a bit overkill. I have never been to a weekend like this - probably going to volunteer or spectate the entire weekend. :) She is convincing me to stay in a hotel. I live 5.5 hrs away and we will be camping on West side of Michigan the weekend prior to this one.

I'm guessing they will do another round of "Kill the Flite Test Crew" like last year. Even if they don't, I'll be flying streamer combat (which usually results in full-contact combat) with my son, brother, nephew, and anyone else who wants to get in on the action throughout the weekend.

I just registered too, and printed my ticket. That means I HAVE to go. :)

Hoping to meet some of you there, just like last year.

By the way, this might have been mentioned elsewhere... will the ticket charge cover a T-shirt and related swag?

Cheers,

Gryf
