kacknor

Build another!
It's about 1995/96 and Internet was new(ish). I worked at a company that had access, but not offical access. Setting up your non-ip Windows 95 install and building the IP stack was up to you. I did it though, and started to experiment with the now common wasting my time at work pastime of 'surfing'.

In the process I found a program/site called Palace. One of the first social interactive attempts, now long gone. My handle came from the Palace I started out at, and it was Star Trek themed. 'Kacknor' in short, is Klingon. I'm way past that, but Kacknor was a totally made up name and as such is unique. If I find a site or page that uses it, I'm guaranteed that it was me and I've been there before. I figure there is value in that.

When I joined this forum, I had just gone through 3 entire fanfold foam sheet sets learning to fly, fix, and scratch build (not necessarily in that order...). 300 square feet of foam in 4 months. I did eventually learn to fly though!

I first got online in the late 80's. It was a unix shell account on a local public access server. Things were primitive. Usernames were 8 characters. Their policy was first initial, then up to 7 chars from your last name. If it's already in use add a number (remove a char if necessary) and increment.

It's just kind of stuck since. At least for places I don't mind using my "official" online identity.

For gaming and less scrupulous sites I have other names I go by...but I won't mention them here :D

Mine's a hold-over from AIM. I used to be a big fan of the anime Tenchi Muyo, some people said I looked a bit like the main character. Well, Tenchi was taken already on AIM, but it suggested Tench745. Since 7 and 45 are some of my favorite numbers I went with it, over time it's become my online identity.

when first online i used DaK ....initials ,but that soon became too short and as i was often refered to as "dak's the nerd" (good with computers lol)it mutated to "dax is a nerd" hence daxian ...which i use to this day . mostly on forums .

well, mine is pretty simple. I love to just fly. i can fly almost anything and everything (particularly gliders) without a miserable crash and enough expo.

My screen name goes back to 15 years ago when i was trying to think up a name for another program, looked out my window and seen my Jamboree motor home parked out front.. i know, very anti-climatic. may it rest in pieces, you Dodge POS

I joined not too long ago. I was looking for a name when my brother told me about the foamwerx idea. B. C. are my first two initials. They work well for that and it also sounds like the time bc. I have done my fair share of foam work and am planning on working with a hot wire soon.

I bow to you sir, you definitely know how to wrench:cool:

I got into online forums back in 2001 when i got my first street bike. A brand new shiny cbr600f4i. I slid it into a guardrail at over 80 mph. After that i spent over a year in a back brace stuck at home hoping my shattered T3 and T4 vertebrae would heal enough for me to get my life back. Spent alot of that healing time post whoring on a motorcycle website under a different but similar screen name.

Fast forward to 2006 and I had all my medical bills paid off and decided to go to motorcycle mechanic school. After graduating and wrenching for a time in a dealership, I became MototechRyan :)

DrDiff was a nick name from my college days. I was studding Complete Blood Cell Count or Blood Differentials when another student came up and started asking about the differential in his Traxxas the Cat R/C Car. I diagnosed a problem in his Differntiaal and was givent the name DrDiff. Hey at least it was a nick name that was family friendly. Some College nick names aren't.

A long time ago a friend of mine mentioned that I dance like Balu the bear from Disney's Jungle Book. I love that movie and the laid back attitude of Balu and the "Look for the bare necessities in life" motto, so that name stuck.

It's kind of funny that I'm known as Balu at work too. Because sometimes people call me, I answer with my real name and they ask me if I can forward them to "Mr. Balu". :)

It's just a nice coincidence that my namesake later took a job as cargo plane pilot too. :)

Mine comes from back in the days of my music focus. I needed an email account and wanted something along the vein of my music. Rather than go with "music man" which would get me into trouble for obvious reasons, I chose my dream instrument... A Willson 2900 Euphonium. Over the years I've moved past music and am now a scientist for a major pharmaceutical company. Frequently its misspelled with a single "L" so it has its own complications.

I attempted to build a wing using a glue gun in each hand so the glue wouldn't cool off too fast.

It didn't go as planned but it gave me a great idea for a forum name.

Mine comes from the print industry I work in. Rasterization is the process of taking a computer file (ie a PDF ) and turning into little dots a printer can use to make an image on paper.

From the wholly remarkable book by Douglas Adams, the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. In the opening chapters of the book, one of the characters is found to be an alien hitchhiker and field researcher for the "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" who has been stranded on Earth for 15 years. The end result of this 15 years of research was the following entry about Earth in the Guide: "Mostly Harmless"

I honestly don't know where my name came from, I wanted to use something that is a bit hard to say, and a little goofy. The rest is history...

My name comes from one of Patrick McManus's books.

It was "assigned" to me after I hacked the computer of a friends older brother so that I could take over his keyboard and mouse while he was playing Total Annihilation. That was a long time ago. Good times.
