DLg's are addicting (got 10 so far) i have done just about every way to get one balsa, DTFB, hotwire, and i just got a blaster 2. to keep thing cheap and light i have been using 1/8" carbon tube for booms, newspaper and epoxy launch points, plastic strapping for spars (the type used on heavy boxes for shipping), 1s lipo from my micro heli, cheap servos for hobbyking, rubber cement and ultimate crafters glue, and packing tape for strength. anyway way to go heres a few pics of some of mine. most of my DTFB builds are in the 65 to 100 gram weights balsa are in the 85 to 160 grams.

So how is the dlg project coming? I want to build an Alula style dlg for thermal hunting but its still in the planning phase. Im really liking the idea of a dtfb dlg glider.

I've made changes to the plans now I need to do another build and test. I've been focused on the nnP-38 the last few weeks so that's been keeping me busy.

Hah - those are all Kite supplies!
I have a box of spare mandrel wrapped and pultrude kite spars and a lot of Spectra kite line (polypropylene).
Spectra is the preferred composition for kite line. It doesn't stretch and is very slippery unlike Kevlar which is quite abrasive.
I knew there would eventually be a cross over to my other favorite hobby...... (c8

Good job on the DLG!

Best regards,
PCH

I see you have a KFerret.....those things are fun. They slope really well, too. :)

Looking forward to the nnDLG.....keep us updated. :D

Those arrows are hard to find! I've been to 5 different Walmarts in surrounding towns and none of them had them, despite the website saying they were in stock
Turns out it is a seasonal item and they only carry them in the fall. I didn't realize archery was a seasonal sport? I would think that if I were into archery, I'd be doing it all summer...
Anyway, just an FIY, if you want to buy cheap arrows from Walmart, and it isn't fall, you're probably going to have to order them online and do in store pickup or something like that.

I'm facing the same problem. No arrows. (I recently procured a 70lb draw compound bow... So I have an even stronger drive to find me some arrows!) I'd take a look at Amazon or something.

I ordered mine too. Local Walmart didn't have any on the floor so I placed and order for 5 online.

Added sample for the v2 plans. Wingspan has been increased and is now a Speedwing using aluminum instead of strapping.

V2 is looking alot more promising with the wing design. Think im gonna build one soon and try it out on my 6mm bungee cord. Try to get some major air on it

You know what you need, Jayz, is a rocket strapped to it with a release mechanism to drop the spent cartridge once it has blasted you to 600+ feet AGL...

I just realized I never posted any pictures of beta 1. Here is what's left of it:

Heh, yeah he's getting up there. Little guy loves planes.

As I said before the beta 1 build was purely to test and stress. The plan was to launch at full power over and over to find the weak points. I ended up breaking the wing and the foam nose/fuse. All the damage was due to the stress of launching.

As you can see the most torque is applied to the center of the plane, right where my arrow shaft and nose/fuse connects the the wing. I have added bbq reinforcement to the nose to see if that's enough to stop breakage on beta 2. The arrow shaft is embedded into the foam in the wing and was very solid after many many throws. So for now I'm not changing that design but we'll see how it holds up at larger scale.

I plan to use a bic pen body as my finger peg and it will be held in place with some glue and anchored with a large plastic patch inside the wing.
