What transmitter should i start with?

Out of Foam Board!
I think so, but three cell is better. If you are going with the mini scout I would reccommend looking for one of the threads where it was made into a 4 channel, and you may have to build it as light as possible.

I also have a Spektrum DX6 G3 on order but have to wait a few years for the model to be released here, (I buy form where I can get a proper support network and hence proper warranty. In the past i have had direct communication with the FlySky factory, (in relation to a next generation product design), whereas trying to get the same level of communication in relation to Spektrum is very difficult to impossible.
.....
Good news,
The Spektrum DX6 G3 has been available in most good hobby shops in Australia for a while now.
Spektrum warranty is excellent , I've seen many times on rcgroups people saying they have had radios repaired out of warranty free of charge, I've had a receiver replaced (Ar500 recall) no questions asked, they will bend over backwards to make you happy.
Spektrum has a employee (Andy Kunz) that's very active on rcgroups that could answer some of your questions.

I started with the FSi6s (which is also a simple FS offering) and then migrated to the Jumper TX - first was &50 and the second was $150 - both good value and work well - the i6s is a 6ch starter Tx and the Jumper is all singing all dancing rig - the great thing about an Open Tx unit (jumper included) is that you can set them up to talk with multiple Rx platforms.

Whilst a Spektrum DX6 G3 is on my list it may need to take a back seat to a few other purchases now. My LHS is a little strange of late and is purchasing less stock. I have looked seriously at the open Tx but do not like the single transmit antenna and that it does not support all telemetry offerings at this time.

The way things are going I may need ot make my own antenna array to give the transmit coverage I require as only one manufacturer is making a good Tx but it lacks backwards compatibility with any earlier equipment.

Thanks for the info though!

Have fun!

I’ve love my FrSky Q X7. I also loved my Graupner MZ-10 and MZ-12, but sadly, Graupner pretty much doesn’t exist anymore. I’m finding receivers that used to cost $30 selling for $150 or more. Just people scalping on eBay because they don’t appear to be an actual company anymore.
