Blocker great build, I just ordered a plan set and short kit from Solopropsll. Following your post I got a O.S 300 I plan on looking into the scale Windscreen and glass cowl. I built an AA Industries 1/4 scale Champ it’s powered with a os 120 gemeni two. Your using a os 160 twin hey great engine, like to know how it performs in your 1/3rd scale. I am planning on polyfibre glider fabric for covering and heavy silk on the control surfaces. I like your Aileron control set up. Are you going to use a pull pull on your rudder. I would sure like to hide the elevator control and use a pull pull system on it also. You got a great project! AJ

I did not realize that this was an old post. I guess everybody disappeared. Well my plans arrived. And it turned out it was just the RCM now debunked 7AC Champ they sold it for 25.00 and I just bought it for 116.00 that included the shipping. They showed a partial kit kinda fooled ya. That's easy with me but the fine print said that partial was a very smaller version. That's when you realized you've been had. Did not even provide Vaseline.

Well found another site that sells a complete kit for around $600.00. I've got enough wood in my stash. I already got scammed by thus Don Carlson in Grand JUNCTION Colorado. Hope he is enjoying his Rocky mountain high. Now I hear all this bad press about him. Some people. Boy I can find them! Any way I will finish the repairs on my AA Industries. And do the very slow build on this 1/3 RCM if anybody knows about a scale windshield and main gear let me knowAJ.

Well on another 1/3rd build site Tony Hallo recommended Probuilders for a Windscreen and fiber glass cowl.ive emailed them first one came back soI tried again it may have gone thru, hope so. The info is pretty old but I am hoping they are still making the two important parts I need to start. Started building a die to reproduce the wing ribs. The aileron Bay is different. Also need the steel tubing to construct the main landing gear. Got a few issues in my way that I need to resolve. AJ.

Well I finally scored on my 1/3 scale cowl and Windshield Probuilders in California will probably take three weeks maybe longer. Glad I found them. But still on the hunt for a 1/4 scale windshield for my AA Industries. I’ve tried to make a Windscreen with the upper bulge but it does not look right. Probuilders did not feel there was enough interest to tool up for that size windshield. Tho he has had many requests. I found a President Champ it was sold thru hobby lobby. They offered a cowl and windshield extra the kit is really nice but the hobby shop that sold on consignment said no body wanted it because it come with the cowl and scale windshield. I know I bought it. It’s alot like the AA Industries Champ. Hope to find or be able to reproduce that windshield.AJ.

I’ve been working on my AA Industries 7 AC Aeronca Champ. It’s going on about three years after I had a mid air with a quad copter. Lots of damage occurred mostly due to my poor building and wanting to get this done. In 2022 I decited to go bigger and ordered a 33% kit from Grand Junction Colorado. A Don Carlson. Sent $950.00 dollars and got nothing. So be warned. My AA Industries Champ is coming along after I built the left wing and went to Aluminum tubes to hold the wings. Also did a mod on my undamaged right wing. I was able to get a little diehedral maybe 2 degrees. I will pin the Aluminum tubes and make the jury struts fully functional. Hopefully my wing modification will improve. Great reading I hope I can find a 1/4 scale Aeronca Windscreen.AJ

I’ve always been a Dope guy, Nitrate to start then Butirate to finish, that’s house paint your talking about? Right Laytex! Thin with water and Alcohaul ? That’s new to me, I have a top loader spray gun and have used it to spray several different finishes. That’s interesting. Thank you for the heads up. AJ

That’s a nice looking Champ you got their. Ya my AA Industries is a sanding beast. I removed all the fabric to repair all the damage. Realized it had after I ran the engine and the fuselage sounded like a bee. It broke several and I mean several fuselage glue joints all the way to the tail. I reinforced with 32 Nd ply, and hopefully it will repair all that damage.AJ

I’ve been reading thru all the post on your Champ, did not realize it was a 1/3 scale version. And your using OS 160 surpass two? I had plans for a build in 33% but my investment failed and I lost $950.00 . I bought a OS 300 for that build. And several other parts. I finally realized I needed to stay with my old AA Industries 1/4 scale Champ on its second rebuild now. Be happy with what you got! My age is creeping up on me. But I keep in the fight fight fight! Just had a back surgery in April. That really set me back! But it’s better after five months. Can’t fly my U controls any more. So maybe my RC Aeronca Champ 1/4 scale will get me thruAJ.

Been thinking about this wing mod and trying to decide the best way to secure these aluminum tubes. Using small clevis pins with cotter pins or using blind nuts and long machine screws. My new struts are aluminum and the jury struts are fully functional. I kinds like the clevis pin idea, with cotter pins. They would be barely noticeable. AJ

Well got them Clevis pins ordered Wicks aircraft has them in the 1/8th 396 to fit four points and drill 2 3/8 long on those pins and use a small washer and cotter pin. That center section will be epoxy in place. And the wings will just slide in place. And the 396 1/8th clevis pins four each will hold the wings. Anyway that's the plan! I guess the best thing to do is get it all assembled and fit before I do this recover. Still have to make up the wing struts. Been also thinking about adjusting my Engine so my fibre glass cowl fits a little better, and just maybe cut an opening so I can Adjust the mixture and inspect the engine with out removing the prop and cowl. I seen where Tony did that, and I think it's a great Idea.AJ

Well it's back to the drawing board, and my Soringson scale landing gear. It cracked the center mount on impact, I did not realize that and found the damage this morning. Along with the mount area it's also cracked. So I need to repair that area. I had small machine bolts and nuts securing that part. Great time to reinforce that area. I got my new ignition modual for my OS 120 surpass two it's all been repaired and test run, that's the I found out about all damage that left wing caused when it hit and snapped the Dowel wood plugs that secured the left wing to the center section. Replaced all that assembly with Aluminum tubes and my new Clevis pins. AJ

Well I have been side lined by my back surgery but still looking for a smaller pins smaller diameter. Contacted Univair and inquired about Clovis pins, had a contact that sold Aircraft hardware. Very helpful guys, thanks! Maybe these pins are small enough. Then get to drilling those center section holes to secure the wing. Still a lot to do in this rebuild. AJ

I must admit that I'm rather interested in how the finished plane turns out... But I doubt I'll ever build from wood😅

Hey Mr Man. Your comment amused me. Had to laugh. Thanks fir your interest I only wish I could post photos. To be honest at my age and health I really doubt it will fly again. But my enjoyment is in the repair and rebuild. I spend some time to time doing thus repair. Really got bummed out when I crashed it. Only had about four flights maybe 15 minutes each. I think my build and repair is a considerable investment maybe $3.000.00 AJ
