I wanted to build a xl size stick. If I enlarged it to 150, then the top wing panel would need to be two piece, I brought it down to 139 to allow the wing panel to fit on a sheet of foam board, the wing span will be close to 60”
PICTs to follow
I imported the ft stick files into autocad, scaled the sheets up to 139,
That allowed a one piece wing top on a full sheet of foamboard.
Adjusting the folds to make them the right size
I started cutting some test pieces on the needle cutter just to see if they would line up and the folds the correct size. The fuse is a two piece, I might have to add more reinforcements. It came out to 40 3/4” long
Making more progress on the build, adding 4 doublers instead of the two.
I might make the doubler out of 3/16 lite ply next time, this area needs to be strong, I used popsicle sticks to reinforce the landing gear pocket
Elevator and rudder are ready, with skewer reinforcements on the leading edge, wrapped with the paper.
Getting the wing spar put together, it’s a 3 piece spar, I will use 1/4” dowels to strengthen the spar
Interested following your build. I’m also doing a big stick at the moment. Mine isn’t from FT plans, and I’m using the heavy foamboard we get here in the UK. I’m hoping the bigger size will offset the considerable weight increase from the different foam-board. On the upside this stuff is VERY strong, so I don’t need to worry about adding strength by making changes to the design. Wingspan on mine is 1.7m - biggest thing I’ve built so far!
Prepped the wing panels,
Since this is a separate top and bottom panel wing, The flap is on the leading edge, just like the master series designs. Putting wing panels together
